Hi all,

I'm facing a new problem about the VN7 series.

I recently bought an ACER VN7-592G-77S2.
Processor is I7-6700HQ so i would be sure to be enable to do virtualization with it.
BIOS is Acer version 1.07 (latest one) : latest bios

What followed was done with BIOS version 1.06 (there) and then re-tested with version 1.07

As the "advanced menu" is hidden, it's impossible for me to toggle the virtualization.
But my problem is something more strange.

So i follow the tutos from Vodek from this forum about the VN7 series : link

I just had to make a more thorough search for point 6 and 7 as it appears that there is no more "intel page" but there is an "i-page" at the same offset :

Code:
3614         Suppress If: {0A 82}
0xB3616             True {46 02}
0xB3618             Setting: i-Page:, Variable: 0x258 {05 91 23 14 24 14 0C 00 34 12 58 02 00 10 00 01 00}
0xB3629                 Option: Disabled, Value: 0x0 (default) {09 07 98 12 10 00 00}
0xB3630                 Option: Enabled, Value: 0x1 {09 07 99 12 00 00 01}
0xB3637             End of Options {29 02}
0xB3639         End If {29 02}

Looking further i also found the variable for virtualization

Code:
0xD3F31         Suppress If: {0A 82}
0xD3F33             Variable 0x119 equals 0x0 {12 06 19 01 00 00}
0xD3F39             Setting: Intel (VMX) Virtualization Technology, Variable: 0x19B {05 91 68 10 69 10 10 00 34 12 9B 01 10 10 00 01 00}
0xD3F4A                 Option: Disabled, Value: 0x0 {09 07 04 00 00 00 00}
0xD3F51                 Option: Enabled, Value: 0x1 {09 07 03 00 30 00 01}
0xD3F58             End of Options {29 02}

Code:
0xCD1E9         Suppress If: {0A 82}
0xCD1EB             Variable 0x8B0 equals 0x0 {12 06 B0 08 00 00}
0xCD1F1             Setting: VT-d, Variable: 0x1DC {05 91 74 0D 75 0D 36 07 34 12 DC 01 10 10 00 01 00}
0xCD202                 Option: Disabled, Value: 0x0 {09 07 E0 0B 00 00 00}
0xCD209                 Option: Enabled, Value: 0x1 {09 07 DF 0B 30 00 01}
0xCD210             End of Options {29 02}

My problem is that when i tried to do step 13 i got an error refusing to write the new value.
Code:
error : can't set variable using efi 0x000...0008

So i did step 14 in order to knew the default value of variable 0x258, 0x19B, 0x1DC
I got : 0 for the first, 1 for the others.

I also tried to make a report following thread but as i don't have AIDA64, just have a "report.rar" generated.  As newbie, i'm not confident about bios flashing then i just stopped at the first reporting generation.

As i just need virtualization can some guru provide me a mod especially to unlock even the hidden menu (if it's well the "i-page") or at least help me activate this feature i really need in order to work with virtualbox or vmware 64 bit platform ?

Thanks a lot

Hello!
All tests are failed!
Try this tool
http://rghost.net/8KPf7HNFn
Also use this tool to save bios dump
http://rghost.net/7kljdjzGQ
But i'm afraid you need SPi Programmer to flash back mod if i'm successed.
Last chance is Recovery Mode (If we can detect Recovery name)
Official BIOS: http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/...ER&SC=PA_6

dmidecode: http://pastebin.com/Pgf26hX2

vodek's post did not work for me (I get "can't set efi variable error 0x0000000000000008"; secure boot is disabled)
Bump; will donate Smile

I would want settings to be unlocked if possible.

Hi, I'll do this in a little bit; I currently run Linux and have to roll a quick Windows install :p Although before I go about that (or for future reference if I decide to do it soon anyway); is there any way to get the information you need through Linux?
You may try do it using Live CD with Win OS!

Is there such a thing? I was only aware of being able to create a Windows to-go drive through a pre-installed 8 OS or something like that, but I imagine such an image exists somewhere.
You can find *.iso image of this thing and write it to USB drive or CD.Anyway you need WINDOWS to create backup using tool.
Your bios chip can be protected from unauthorised mods so you need SPI programmer to flash it.
Last method needed if Recovery method not works.
Do you want to continue?
