I see that they are some news about the Xeon in the T7400 tower here ^^

++

Well I like my Boat Anchors. Also bored. Awaiting delivery of a supposed new Intel 5400 Skull trail. Will put that into a Dell Precision 690 case. With water coolers and 8gigs Pc6400 FBDIMM.
$220.Pc 6400 is expensive still. Cheapest new $70.00 4gigs. Coolers will be handy when I go to work on the 667 Xeon 5050 3.0 mhz. I can taste 5GHZ on the Dell T7400 already ! With no Bios options !

Good news. BSEL on Intel Xeon E5450 works with A09 Bios. 3490.GHZ Stable.35c average across all cores. Will try with latest A-11 Bios. Then install SetFsb on this machine. Looks good 392.00mhz divider. Maybe can sqeeze up to 3.7 ghz? . at 413 with SetFSB ! How is that for an old Boat Anchor !

On Air. Some one crack this Bios Please !

Found a pair of E5445 mixed in with the Xeon X3363 I had. Will try those on my other T7400. E5440 works well also BSEL and a push with SetFSB.

Below is link to CPU-Z Validator. Had to run a bench mark Test due to EIST speed stepping. Finally got the result. 3706.3MHZ. The T-7400 actually gets to
37.10. But the stress cpu test is uneven. PCMark 7 and 8 crash on this legit copy of Windows 32. So next Vista 64 Business and Server 2008r2 Standard Full workstation minimum configuration.

Can someone crack this boat anchor's Bios Please ! SetFsb at 412. is rock solid stable.

Now to play with the Dell 490.
Can somebody please tell me or refer me to a site that shows how to do a BSEL mod to a Xeon E5450. I would be extremly thankful for the help.
Hi,
Please look through my Posts. The link is there already. Make sure that the two curved slots are on your right. Count from the bottom the pads. On your right. When you get to number six and seven. Those are the pin pads to cover. One Note.
These are the Pin pads to Cover in the Dell T7400 Mother Board. Possibly only the 6th pin in other Intel 5400 chipset based mother boards. Could have made an error.
but the mod did not work with only pin pad 6 covered for me. When I covered both
6 and 7 bingo !

In fact those would be the pin pads to cover on any 1333mhz Quad core to fool the board that the chip is a 1600mhz chip. If a Mac Pro or Hp with a 1600mhz bus and proprietary mother board with no over clock bios options this mod works. Probably useful on a server board with 1600mhz bus.

The VID Mods look straight forward though have not needed to do this on the T7400. This the Voltage might explain my problems Overclocking X Quad Cores
on the T7400. Obviously from the intel Specs the E series Quads are advantageous. They run cooler. Which sugests they are more energy efficient with the same processing power as the Xseries?

Certainly 3.7 ghz from an old Boat Anchor is fantastic. Unless you are doing perhaps Cad or who knows what. How much processing Power is needed? Design a Transporter?
Rocket Ship? LOL !

Be patient. I have poor eye sight.

I Use a super sharp sheet rock cutting blade to slice of a thin long piece of black tape.

I place the tape on wax Paper over cardboard and a piece of wood. A couple of try's get a thin piece that just covers the pads.

Not the surrounding Pads on the bottom of the chip.

Then squeeze down with my left thumb. Trim at edge of chip with sharp blade.

Now It takes me just 5 minutes top's to do any chip. If that long. Today if I have time will play with a pair of Xeon 5050 Duals. Seeking the elusive 5GHZ on a T7400 with no Bios Options LOL !

Some body on this Board can come up with a Bios Mod for this Old Dell Boat Anchor. Please. Poor Man's Mac Pro LOL !

This mod most likely useful in my New Skull Trail. Lousy weather in NYC. Parts of Howard Beach Look like a War Zone in Syria. My area was Spared. Mail/UPS/Fed Ex Delays.

Elusive 5gh coming soon with a pair of old 771 chips.

Even a pair of single core 771 chips might do it. With prices so dirt cheap on these chips who would care frying a few in the process. LOL Maybe then 6gh and beyond !

NewEgg has a steal bought two EVGA 550 TI to upgrade my beast from the east T7400. Even if the rebate never arrives 103.00 each. If rebate shows up 89.00 Then SLI. Beats the old card's 8800gts Ultra. Also the new cards will go easy on the old PSU in this Beast. Might finally try a few video games. Free with purchase of Cards.
Cool thank you for all of your help!
I am super excited to try this on my computer.
I am going to look into buying a couple of E5450's right now.
Here is a very informative Link that assisted me in understanding the methods of over clocking Intel Xeon LGA 771 Processors. Voltage modification known as VID Mods are also dealt with. The Diagrams say it all !

Ohh cool thanks for the link I will read through it right now. I just ordered a pair of two never used E5450's for $95. Now I need to find a heatsink for a good price.

Ok Be patient. Ebay dealers Charge $25.00 shipped for an Identical heat Sink like in your T7400. I have picked up several for 10.00 Shipped.

The Dell 690 uses the same Heat Sink. Also take a look at Heat Sinks for MacPro 2008
early model. Seen them for $20. Pair Shipped. You could then Sell your single on Ebay !

95. Matched pair is great. I am cheap soo used fifty was alright !

Have Fun !
Looks like I will have to be patient. I can not find any for that cheap. Well Im sure if I wait somebody will list one for a good deal.

Did you try messing with your xeon 5050s out of curiosity?
Maybe tonight !

Offer this Seller 25.00 for the Pair. Im tempted. But have extra already. They look look they fit. Plus they have probably a Heat sensor maybe a fan?

He might let them go for thirty shipped. Put your single up for Auction 19.99 free shipping. Bet those Apple heat Sinks are superior to the Dell.
After a few offers back and forth I managed to get the Apple heatsinks for a reasonable $35 with shipping. Thanks a bunch for finding them for me. I would have had no idea to even look at apple heatsinks had you not told me.
