following on from my request here I now know that the bios is not responsible for turning the usb part of the pci-e card on, taping pin 20 just bypasses the wi-fi switch so how do I get the Bluetooth part of this card to be useable? its a Broadcom BCM94313HMGB card.

Edit;

just read this, so now I think perhaps my pci-e is v1/2 and the card being new is v2.1, so is the version of pci-e bios controlled or hardware dependent?
This is an interesting one. Can you please post the system specs for where the card is running?

report on the pci-e structure of the mb attached Big Grin

I take a look on Satellite A100 schematic (don't know if is simple or Pro) is made by Inventec model San Antonio board.
What ca I say,on this schematic USB pins of miniPCIE are not used.

Take note I don't know if schematic are for Satellite A100 or Satellite Pro A100.

this board is an Intel Capell Valley (napa) CRB motherboard, it is a satellite pro, do you have this schematic?
Under Toshiba folder no.
Can you provide extra info?

Manufacturer? (Compal,Quanta,Inventec ...)
Board model?
The pain with these miniPCI-E is that they combine USB and PCI-E. If your miniPCI-E slot doesn't have USB then you have to find one and connect the signal to your slot. It's either only two wires (TX/RX) or four (with +5V and GND). Sometimes manufacturers leave unused USB connectors on the board. Which you can make use of.
I've found a little adapter thing that I think might add the power to the usb part of the pci-e card, anyone confirm?

Adaptor

This thing doesn't add any power on anything. It's just a mechanical board - a PCB with holes for screws if you wish.
You can mod your miniPCI-E to add USB. What I can't tell is whether the TX/RX pairs are available. Any good photo of the board near the connector?
