People, y470 bios is, AFAIK, the same as y570 and it IS NOT COMPATIBLE with y470p, so you're really lucky that flashing utility was "clever" enough to prevent you from flashing that bios, because otherwise it'd likely brick your lap.
By the way, if there exists an update for your bios and if you want, I can describe one tricky yet simple way to mod bios without removing the whitelist check completely, but merely by adding your wireless card to whitelist.
Confirmed, I succesfully updated BIOS on a Lenovo Ideapad Y470 using the bios downloaded in this forum 1_NWL_UlkMenus.rar
just need to edit the platform.ini file, put the correct filename in the Filename field in the [FDFile] section.
My Intel Centrino Ultimate N-3600 now works like a charm. and BIOS has advanced menus.

Thank you all.

its confirmed that it works properly but please don`t use the attached flash utility as it didn`t flash all BIOS parts and as a result the mod isn`t written in BIOS , just use another flash utility with the same BIOS file .
Thanks for confirming,

Moved to unlocked /mod

After a lot of work, Ahmed broke the code and we have a BIOs without a whitelist!!!!

I can now run on 5GHZ wifi. It's quite amazing.

So definitely confirmed 100%.

And here you have with menus unlocked.
Any update to this? I have the same model and issue and would like to try this mod if it is successful. Thank you!

I confirmed it to be working almost a year ago.
I just successfully updated bios and have new wifi card installed, getting 243 mbps speed. Thanks to Ahmed Hossam and also amervs, who gave me the final clue after I had suffered, in previous attempts, all of the errors detailed by other posters. Finally I downloaded and unpacked the Lenovo Bios install package, added the .bin file contained in the 1_NWL_UlkMenus.rar file found in this forum, replaced the platform.ini file with the one contained in this forum. I opened the platform.ini file with WordPad, on the line after the term (FDFile), after "file =" I inserted the name of the .bin file (that is, 1_NWL_UlkMenus.bin). The bios file loaded perfectly, i had no issue rebooting with new wifi card and getting 5HZ wireless "n" speeds. Thanks again to all. Huge difference!!
Really new to this, and all I have to say is wow thank you all. I have never even unpacked an exe before and I followed the instructions in here and I now have modded bios running. It was really easy. Thank you again to those involved.

Looks like I will be ordering my new wifi card tonight Smile

I do have a question if anyone looks back to this older thread. In the advanced menus>video; can I force the y470 to only use the nVidia GFX card by setting it to PCI?

Thanks again to all involved (from the modder to those who wrote instructions).
This mod is great. Installed intel 6250 no problem. I did however completely [censored] myself on the video card because I was trying to force the use of the nVidia card.

So, I am completely screwed right now. I hope someone will see this. In the bios I set Advanced>Video to peg and I need to find a way to get it back to SG or IGFX somehow. I tried connecting to a monitor so that I could just reload the bios or anything, but all I get is a black screen.

I hope someone can help.

Thanks

Also curious as to if this is compatible with the y470p. I've grown to hate this laptop honestly. Haha. No updates since 2011, no unlocks that I've yet to find. If i hadn't paid so much for it a couple years ago I would be snapping it over my knee right now.
Hi I'm new to bios modding and this is my first post in this forum Smile

I've flashed the modded bios on my Y470 to upgrade the wifi card to an Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260. After plugging that card in, the entire system, including the bios, starts to lag really badly. The lag is not choppy but consistent, bit like slow motion. Everything, from the window transition effects, to the playing of videos, is like The Matrix.

I've tested an Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 and it works perfectly. To verify it's not the 7260 I have that's faulty, I had it installed in an old NEC laptop that does not have a bios with wifi whitelisting, and it works without the lag.

Anyone has any clue as to what's going on here?
