8 SPI Flash Programming
Procedures

This chapter assumes the use of Intel flash tools: Flash Programming Tool and Flash
Image Tool (FPT and FIT/ftoolc).

8.1 Updating BIOS

If the target system does not have a have a working BIOS and no alternate method of booting
(for example: FWH) then you must use a 3rd party out of system programmer.

8.1.1 Updating BIOS in Descriptor Mode

If updating BIOS in a system where the BIOS region is defined in the descriptor, you can use the following command.

C:\ fpt -f <file> -bios

If unsure that descriptor or the BIOS region is not defined, use fpt -i. Make sure that the descriptor is valid
and that BIOS region is large enough to accommodate the intended image.

Hi

I have a VN7591G T70 and would it be possible for someone to upload the moded bios up somewhere for me so
I could just install that file, without any of the complex intermittent steps or as few of them as possible?

I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

There is an issue with the Acer VN7-591G, where if you have an external monitor connected while the system is powering on, the fans do not function at all. You can see in the links below that this issue occurs on all laptops of the same model, regardless of BIOS version or if motherboard is replaced by Acer.

I have two questions -

1. If I'm able to unlock my BIOS, is there an option in the Advanced or Power menu that I can enable/disable that will fix the problem?
2. If not, can someone patch the BIOS to fix the issue, or at least point me in the right direction, so I can do it? I've contacted Acer support and they were absolutely NO help. They wanted me to send the laptop in to get the BIOS fixed...

If there's any other information that I need to provide, please let me know.
