BIOS recovery for Acer Veriton X4640G
#1
Windows did a BIOS update on my Acer Veriton X4640G and now my machine is bricked. Acer refuses to help as its just out of warranty. I have read various threads and learnt that AMI bios is recoverable if I rename the BIOS file to the specific name, have tried Andy P's tool to find the correct name but had no luck. Has anyone been able to recovery BIOS on this model before? Any help would be highly appreciated.

Hi friend, i don't know this pc , but read the Service Guide and you'll find many informations , page 103 - 106 ...

BIOS Recovery
Put the AMIBoot. ROM to a bootable USB flash drive(Disk on Key, DOK).
Install the DOK to the system.
Press power button to boot the system and then press Ctrl + Home.
The BIOS recovery function will be executed.
After BIOS is updated completely, the system will auto reboot.

I think you have to set the BIOS WP jumer too , sot unlock it off during the recovery , then after you will set to on again.

Here is the Service Manual :

https://www.mediafire.com/file/bnxge3qce...g.pdf/file

Here there are Firmware Acer Stock Bios Page :

https://www.acer.com/ac/en/ID/content/su...t/6391?b=1

So extract the bios file from ROM folder and rename as AMIBoot.ROM copy it into an USB Stick FAT32 Formatted and boot following the instructions ...
I don't know if it will work, but it's all i have found about it ...

Hi BDMaster,

I read through the mentioned pages on the service manual, and tried the mentioned steps, but still no luck. When I download BIOS from Acer they only provide a file with a .8M extension. So have renamed that to the mentioned name, but still nothing.

So at last you need to buy a cheaper CH341a Programmer and a Pomona Clip to make this job, i am sorry !

Got the CH341A programmer and a Pamona clip, but the .8M BIOS file thats downloadable from Acer doesn't seem to work. Probably might need a BIOS dump from the same model?

Yes friend, the Firmware is different as Bios is only a Region, you can get it from here :

Acer Veriton X4640G

https://vinafix.com/threads/acer-veriton...ios.25072/

But if you upload the Dump (i hope you made from your eeprom) i will try to rebuild , using the bios region.

regards
