Gigabyte MA770-DS3 rev 1.0
#11
Unfortunately chip I bought is not compatible and it burned when i connected it to programmer. It has completely different pinout. I've tried every corner of Serbia to find compatible 8M BIOS but had no success. This all has to be postponed till my chip arrives from Farnell UK.

8Mbit i ordered was DOA, you can't imagine how am i frustrated now, but by pure accident i found out that GB has a board that fully supports AM3 cpu and has 512KB BIOS and most important it has SB600 southbridge.

Ok. Semi-good news. I've did extensive 24h testing with three different AM3 CPUs and this board now supports AM3 line except X6 CPUs. All you need to do is to flash BIOS from MA-790X-DS4 board (find it in previous post) as these BIOSs are 100% compatible. I did flashing from Linux with Flashrom utility, which programs ROM as a standalone programmer. Also with this BIOS you get AHCI support as well. There is only two issues which are easily solvable.

#1 On first boot with AM3 CPU you may get default CPU voltage only at 1.000-1.090V all you need to do is to select +0.375V from BIOS which gives you ability to run any AM3 CPU at stock speeds, with F8F original BIOS it was only possible to add +0.100V which was not enough for normal operation.

#2 It is not possible to overclock much as max board could give us is 1.350-1.400V, this is only solvable with volt mod. Mod can give you another 0.200V making board fully operational with AM3 CPUs. Unfortunately board has over-current protection so when you pass 0.200V mark it will shut down. I will make a Volt mod guide for this board here in next few days.

Previous post #13 is not correct.

Board gives full support, issues I had where from a faulty board. I've realized that after i plugged in AM2 Sempron and saw that CPU VID is way off, i should have been 1.35V but in fact it was 1.58V. After close checking of voltage regulator and its component i saw some gooey substance covering all of it. I washed the board with Isopropyl alcohol and everything works now without any issues. Board now correctly recognizes CPU VIDs on AM2 Sempron, AM2+ Phenom 9500 and AM3 Phenom II X3 710. Pictures of BIOS are below.

Hi, Misko, I'm new to this, so bear with me. The dropbox link, wich I used and downloaded is a modified bios or the original BIOS from MA-790X-DS4 board? I also downloaded that one from the gigabyte site and it's not the same size. Please also advise if I shouldn't use the gigabyte flashing utilities. I am also able of flashing the chip with a Galep IV programmer, would this be better? Thanks in advance for your reply, HT
