How to extract .bin file from .fd BIOS update file
#1
I am new here. I purchased an Acer Chromebook C7 which I came to not like due to the limitations. I understand it is basically an Acer Aspire One AO756 with a heavily locked down BIOS made custom for the Chrome OS. I understand if you can flash the BIOS, this little guy will essentially become an AO756 where you can load anything including Linux or Windows.

Here is what I have done.
1. Figured out where the BIOS hardware protection switch was located and jumpered it.
2. Downloaded both Acer AO756 Bios updates from the website.
3. Extracted the older one (not for Windows 8) using 7zip.
4. Found the .fd file (HM70x64.fd) for this unit.
5. I tried using the Flashrom command to flash but was warned that the file size was different from the BIOS and it exited.
6. I read up and understand I need to somehow extract a .bin file from the .fd file but do not know how to do this.

Does anyone here know how to do this? I understand I could make this thing a brick but I really don't care at this point. Thank you.

Another solution to this problem would be some utility that would allow me to flash natively inside Linux using the stock Insyde bios update file. Is it possible to flash directly from an .FD file within Linux?
