I have got an IBM Aptiva 2168-931 (Service Level H) with an rather unusual Opti Viper PCI chipset. With a custom VRM-Module from Necroware it is possible to employ every conceivable Socket-7-CPU, up to an AMD K6 3+ with 400 MHz. The respective CPUs are shown in BIOS as "Pentium" - which is fine with me.
There is one catch: the mainboard accepts CPUs to a clock frequency of 166 MHz. Even a non-MMX 200 MHz Pentium will produce an error 127, the CPU-Frequency is then recognized with 0 MHz. However, after exiting the BIOS, the PC runs fine, regardless of the frequency.
IBM-Aptiva_2168_Service-Level-H_BGOGR1L_6800_original.bin has bin extracted from an M28F101-150K1 -chip, using a T48.
Aptiva_2168-931_BIOS.zip is the product of mflash.exe, that produces a diskette-image for booting an IBM flash-program, that invokes a multi-language flash-process.
Perhaps there might be a possibility to alter this BIOS, so that CPUs > 166 MHz won't issue an error 127.

On this machine, there has been a German version installed. BGO__1L ist the latest BIOS version for this computer. "__" stands for the respective language-codes.
