Latitude E6520 BIOS extraction/modding?
#1
The -writehdrfile command line method, and trying to find the BIOS file in the temp folder (no file present) methods do not work. Universal BIOS backup toolkit retrieves an incomplete BIOS.

When loading the .ROM file from Universal BIOS backup toolkit into phoenixtool 1.92, it says that it is an Insyde UEFI BIOS. When I try to open the BIOS in EZH2O, it says that it isn't an insyde BIOS.

Note that the BIOS.exe does not flash in Windows. When the .exe is run, the system reboots, and flashes the BIOS immediately after POST.

I am really out of ideas here. All I can think of is trying to prevent the system restart, and then looking for the .ROM or whatever file in the temp folder, but I don't know how to disable auto restarts.

It's so PAINFUL to have a 2920xm ES with temps under 80C in Prime95, and not being able to overclock. I'm trying to clear bit 63 of MSR 0x610. This bit locks the MSR so that the MSR cannot be altered after startup, preventing me from changing the CPU power limits. I would also like to alter MSRs 0x199 and 0x1AD to higher than default values, since they are responsible for the CPU multiplier. These MSRs can be changed after boot, but changing them after boot has no effect.

I posted a few months ago but got no reply. I'm hoping that someone may have figured something out by now.

Would have linked from Dell's site, but it's all cookie based so I couldn't link very close to the download.

I hate to revive an old post, but would like to re-flash my bios on my Dell Latitude E6520 (i5 sandy bridge). Trying to get rid of Computrace being activated from the store (dumbass Best Buy).

Link to the bios download site

email me please when you have any updates. Thank you in advance.
