Thanks to LinuxHata for the following advice.

"It's important that pendrive is named "HP_TOOLS" otherwise the recovery process is not working"

With this one you should be able to recover from a bad flash. You will need specific files for your bios version, the way to find them is by the spxxxxx number the stock updater has.
