Please help; Aspire L5100 R01-A2
#1
Hello Shy

Hopefully you can help me;

I got a
Aspire L5100
Phoenix AwardBIOS
Sytsem s/N 92CBL9ZZ7T7420BEAF2701
Mainboard ID FRS690L
System BIOS Version 6.00 PC
SM Bios Version 2.5
System BIOS ID R01-A2
BIOS Release Date 09/14/2007

With no possibility to enable virtualization. This BIOS is not available for download anymore.
The latest BIOS on acers ftp-server is R01-B0 (03/04/2008)
ftp://ftp.acer-euro.com/desktop/aspire_l...R01-B0.zip

Do I need the original acer bios update to R01-B0 before installing the modded R01-B0 or is it possible to install the modded version directly?

Thread: http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Ac...ght=R01-B0

Which Flash Utility should I use? (Award Flash, Phoenix WinPhlash or the version from acers FTP called Award Winflsh Utility 1.92?)

Thank you for any help!

Best Regards
Marcel

As long as you follow the instructions for the award BIOS update via USB Flash Drive you should be able to go right to the modded version. Simply follow these isntructions and use the BIOS mentioned in the thread.

Instructions: http://www.bios-mods.com/biosupdate.html

Thanks,

Hi TheWiz

Thx for reply! OK, i'll create a bootable usb drive. BUT: The modded ZIP http://dl.dropbox.com/u/747181/Acer%20As...34s282.zip does not only contains the modded bios- bin file, it also contains a "aflash.bat" and a "afu855.exe".

Why that?

According to the bios update instruction, I should use

AWARD= awdflash bios.bin /py /sn /f /cc /r

and Not

Afu855 741A1P17.BIN /py/sn

Huh

Best Regards
Marcel

EDIT: I guess it's because of the fact, that those files were already in the original package from acer's ftp
