[REQUEST] Lenovo G505S (83CNxxWW) BIOS Unlock
#51
Hi mate,
On some ThinkPad models It was possible as the Programmin technique was easy !
So It depends about the Code and how is hidding into as We have to find and modify.
Actually I haven't time to make all thi works . . .

I report the mods . . .

**********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************
RAM Speed Unlock (Speedo) This trick Unlock RAM Memory Speed
**********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

This Mod is reported initialy by CodeRusn and then bt XfD, and BDMaster (publicated 02-28-2015, 10:14 AM) :
https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-L...ble?page=3

So Who say the true ? BDMaster , I think and these ere the body of evidence !

Memory Frequency Unlock (CodeRush, Xfd, BDMaster) :

54519AE4-C284-42A8-901C-AF2132999E32_16.ROM SandyBridgePhx.efi

54519AE4-C284-42A8-901C-AF2132999E32_16.ROM SandyBridgePhx.efi = RAM Speed (check for 0x535h (decimal 1333) Mhz Frequencies)

181E : 8B 95 C8 FC FF FF to 66 0F 1F 44 00 00 mov eax, [ebp+var_338] to nop word ptr [eax+eax+00h]

1824 : 8B 42 09 to 0F 1F 00 mov eax, [ebp+var_338] to nop dword ptr [eax]

1827 : 66 C7 41 01 35 05 to 66 0F 1F 44 00 00 mov word ptr [ecx+1], 535h to nop word ptr [eax+eax+00h]

182D : C6 85 C2 FC FF FF 0C to 0F 1F 80 00 00 00 00 mov [ebp+var_33E], 0Ch to nop dword ptr [eax+00000000h]

(O:1810:660F1F440000)
(O:1816:0F1F00)
(O:1819:660F1F440000
(O:181F:0F1F8000000000)

Original

.text:FFD3A8A2 mov edx, [ebp+var_338]
.text:FFD3A8A8 mov eax, [edx+9]
.text:FFD3A8AB mov word ptr [eax+1], 535h
.text:FFD3A8B1 mov [ebp+var_33E], 0Ch

Modified

.text:FFD3A8A2 nop word ptr [eax+eax+00h]
.text:FFD3A8A8 nop dword ptr [eax]
.text:FFD3A8AB nop word ptr [eax+eax+00h]
.text:FFD3A8B1 nop dword ptr [eax+00000000h]

So just noped these instructions We will get the Frequencies Unlock !

I really am just after being able to adjust RAM timings and clock. I am looking at getting 1866MHz 10-10-10-30 RAM and I've seen that this machine locks the speed to 1600MHz (and I would assume then standard JEDEC timing profiles and not XMP). Can this be unlocked in the BIOS or does the stock BIOS not even have an option for it and therefore would have to have it added in and be rewritten?

I do believe my BIOS version is 83CN53WW, but I do not have my machine in front of me at the moment to confirm. I know it is the same 3.00 .exe version that many prior post have linked to.

Thanks!

Ah, you cannot unlock the RAM for this laptop...the chipset in the G505s only supports 1600mhz RAM at max. so the best you can do is to unlock timings. I suggest you do this using AMD overdrive

Kind regards

I don't suppose there is any way to change that by say modifying the chipset drivers or whatever bit of code controls the chipset? Seems pointless to have the only Richland mobile CPU that supports 1866 stuffed in a machine limited to 1600.

Well there could be a way...it will be highly risky as it could kill the hardware on the laptop. I will be happy to test if BDMaster finds a way to unlock our ram timings. Also, does you laptop come in a dual gpu config?

No, mine just has the 8650G in the APU itself. My exact model is G505s-20225 if that makes a difference. At the time I bought mine, I was looking for a fairly cheap way to play one of my MMO games while on the go or traveling and I was seeing so many issues with the dual GPU model in regards to micro stuttering, throttling, and heat issues then found that just the APU alone would be enough for what I needed so got that instead.

Ah...in that case DO NOT OC THE RAM. i have noticed that while running games on my 8650g the bottom left of the laptop becomes extremely hot. The ram is already running at 70C when at 1600mhz so i dont think 1866mhz will do any good for the laptop

I would have suggested the G505s - 20255 - (8650g + R5 M230) (plays games like planetside 2 on high at 30fps XD)

Kind regards

The RAM I am getting has heat spreaders and run at 1.35v so heat is not an issue. I'd love to tighten the timings if overclocking to 1866MHz is not possible.

I have my SLI desktop to play all games on, I got the laptop solely for the purpose of getting on my MMO while on the go to keep my training and assets in order.

I'm going to be doing some heat sink treatment to the laptop here soon to see if I can get the APU to run cooler and therefore give me the option to lock the CPU in turbo mode as well as keep the GPU from throttling. I'm going to try putting another heat pipe in with heatsink fins, lapping the mating surface, and allowing more ventilation through the chassis. I already have a small heat sink on the chipset.

yup sounds good.

However, I will not be committing to this forum for longer as my Lenovo laptop died so I moved onto acer (much nicer build than the G505s). My new laptop is an E5-552G with is a lovely laptop except acer (in their great minds) decided to put the cpu and GPU within 1 inch of each other and on the same heatpipe. Therefore, crossfire will force shut off the notebook as the cpu will get too hot Sad

Could you please show me what heatsink treatment you are doing so I can try on my new laptop?

Hello Folks,

I use a Lenovo G505s with a Insyde H2O 3.7 BIOS.
With two ram modules connected I want to use the dual channel mode.
This - unfotunately is not possible without configuration of the Advanced Settings.

Can I unlock these settings with a tool by myself?
Else how do I create a usable image of my BIOS?
I read about the phoenixtool and EFI shell, but didn't get valuable information...
Some clarification would be helpful before bricking my drive.

Hello!
Hmm, as i know "5" digit at end of model name Lenovo's laptops means AMD platform.
You need SPI Programmer+Rapsberry Clip to flash back mod.

Please,do not post requests me in PM.Bios modding is very dangerous work.If i provide you confirmed modded bios, please donate for my dangerous work https://goo.gl/98BgtO.Thank you!
