I just wanted to say thank you!
I installed the modded BIOS on my Lenovo L520 and it worked fine.
Had to replace the bad wifi card and the obviously the system didn't boot with the new intel 7260hwm. Thanks to the patched BIOS it's working now.
If anyone else looking for a solution flashing with the manufacturer provided tools while using linux I can recomend the Hiren's BootCD PE (https://www.hirensbootcd.org/). I used it successfully to update the BIOS.
