[REQUEST] Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E430 & E530 (H0ETxxWW) Whitelist Removal
#1
I need to install an unauthorized wireless card. Please remove white-list

-Motherboard Manufacture and Model : Thinkpad Edge E430 - 3254ACU
-Bios Revision : H0ET32WW (1.14 )
-Bios Type : EFI / insyde
-Bios SLIC : LENOVO
-Bios Link : http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub...s/h0uj03ww.exe
-Rw-everything report : https://www.dropbox.com/s/ydeecsta79k2dsf/AcpiTbls.rw

Thanks in advance!

+1 to this!

I love my new Thinkpad, but was unaware that the Thinkpad wifi card was actaully a Realtek. Any Linux user with a Realtek knows the pains of making them work right (though not as bad as Broadcom). So it would be great if I could bypass this crazy whitelist. Like speedy, I thank anyone who might be able to help in advance.

As a side note, is there anyone who can point me to documentation on modding the bios from a Linux platform?

Edit: I am thinking the only way I can go about it is using the Pheonix bios utility under a virtual machine or (possibly) wine.

I tried to update using the modified bios, but it just keeps freezing on me. At first I was horrified, but I braved a hard reset and it didn't update a thing. It keeps doing it over and over again. Huh

... and yes, I am using WINUPTP.exe /s from both the command prompt and the run dialog. Neither has worked. If you know what the heck I am doing wrong, please let me know.

Try running it as administrator. And disable anti-virus software.

Yeah, I did those two things. In fact it is on a fresh install of Windows, so I did it with no AV installed even. At first it was struggling because I unknowingly had Norton scanning everything even though I had opted *not* to use it during initial setup. Still no dice...

So, speedy1979, I just wanted to report that I got it working. I was unable to ever get it to flash from within windows itself.

Thanks to serg008 from the mydigitallife forum thread you linked to above, I was able to create a dos bootable usb stick and extract a modified set of files onto it.

See post #4559 of the thread linked by speedy above for anybody who is running into the same issues I was.

I now have an Intel Centrino 6235 running amazingly in Arch Linux! Smile

That is great news!

I am pretty pleased... I didn't realize how crappy the Thinkpad b/g/n card was until I got this one working.

The TP card was okay in Windows, but in linux, the Realtek drivers had to be reverse engineered and were pretty terrible. Even when Realtek finally released a linux driver it was probably worse than the open source one... I guess it shows the influence MS has on HW manufacturers.

Well, thanks so much for getting the ball rolling on this. I was apprehensive about registering and posting, fearing that asking someone else to do my dirtywork might not be well recieved. But I couldn't be happier with what yours persistence and other's work has afforded me. Thanks!

If anyone needs the updated bios w/o the whitelist for their E430 (Sept. 2012), it is in the same thread as above.
