Acer Veriton 6900Pro (Q9657MC-8KSR2H)
#1
Motherboard Make/Model : Q9657MC-8KSR2H (as reported by Everest Ultimate Engineer Edition v5.01.1700)
Bios Version You Want Modding : R03-A4
Link To Official Bios Download : Here

Some other motherboard with this chipset (Q965) accept Q8400 cpu. Can anybody please add this support to this modded bios (plus all other unlocked options).

TQ

This should be in CPU Support REquests

We cannot add Intel CPU Support - Microcodes are not available

There were a couple of options hidden that ive unlocked but please bear in mind it was nothing major. Acer unlock mods have an extremely high failure rate for some reason and you flash this modded bios at your own risk. Please be aware that you may not be able to boot your system if this flash fails.

HELP!
Yes youre right Angel My PC doesnt boot anymore! Blush

It seemed to be the right Bios, version-numbers matched all...

But what can i do now??Please help me...if got a working bios from acer, already testet, but how to flash now?Because i cant start!

Ive read that there is a program which can flash bios in situation like this from diskette but i cant remember the name..."Phoenixcrisis" or something like this? Does that work for this Acer Phoenix-Award-Bios??

But how does it work when pc doesnt start (screen black, ventilator runs ,electric seems to be starting but doesnt boot)? Are there other ways?Found a jumper on board named "bios-sel" but doesnt happen anything when i remove!
---
Is there anyhow an easier/working way to unlock fsb-select in acer-bios??

And much more important, how do i recover my pc/bios to work??

HELP PLEASE! HuhHuhHuh

EDIT: booting from disk doesnt work, so i cant use any of recovery-methods mentioned at the head of this forum!!

Need fast help, please!

Phoenix Crisis is for Phoenix Bioses. Phoenix-Award bioses are reffered to as just Award Bioses on this site.

Theres a recovery guide in our tutorials section. Please try that first

If the recovery fails , look to see if your BIOS chip is in a socket on the motherboard. If it is , it can be removed and you can either buy a new pre-programmed chip or send your chip to us to be reprogrammed.

Nope, tutorial doesnt work because it doesnt start from disk!
Does Acer integrated a trick to start? "Alt+B" and so on doesnt work, keyboard-leds arent on, seems like keyboard is dead!

Theres a jumper onboard called "bios_sel1" but i dont know which function it has! Manual says its "SPI & FWH BIOS select"...it has only 2 pins, when i remove pc restarts every ~5 seconds! And it is not the "clear_cmos"-jumper!

Bios-chip is soldered onboard, i cant remove it!

I talked with Acer, they say they could reflash it but it costs around 50€!

Isnt there any other way to do it by myself??

Isnt there a trick to start this board from disk to reflash??

How does Acer reflash it???

This will require some research. Please be patient

Ok some research:-

Quote:If the pins come out the other side of the board, then it is possible to remove. If you are experienced at soldering it should be no problem to remove and resolder the chip. For most people, it is usually best to replace the whole motherboard in this case.

Do the chips pins stick out the other side of the motherboard then?

No, it has very fine "pins" which are soldered only on the upper side Sad

But im wondering how Acer does...do they have any "tools" to connect something to board to reflash? Or is there a "simple" trick to boot from usb/disk/cd that nobody knows?

Veriton should be a "secure industrial pc" - cant believe that it is so simple to destroy everything and that at bios is no security-backdoor....
Board seems to be a "FQ965M"....

Have a look for 7 pins which may have the text SPI printed near them. I think this is how Acer does it. You can connect a SPI Programmer to these 7 pins and reflash that way. Another way is using an expensive clamp which you an clamp over the chip to remove it and then insert another one.

Id also appreciate a high resolution photo of the chip and surrounding area if you have a decent camera Big Grin

ALT+F2 on boot will start the awardflash util from a floppy drive on this system. You may not see any video. No clue if the award floppy has to have a special recovery bios name on this system. This feature is built into this bios I looked it up. I am also suppling the service manual.
