[REQUEST] Lenovo Thinkpad T530 (G4ETxxWW) Whitelist Removal
(10-26-2015, 07:00 AM)tpmac7 Wrote: Hello,

i have a thinkpad t530 and i want to exchange the wireless card so i can run a hackintosh with pcie wifi.

I have a raspberry pi and i'm thinking about modding the bios with the help of a sop8 clip.

But before i'm actually going to mod the bios i'm trying to rebrand a wireless card so it will work with the "locked" bios.

Can somebody help me by extracting the id's of the allowed wifi adapters in this laptop?

I know there are different threads on here about this laptop like:
https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-R...val?page=2

but i coudn't find the whitelist there.

Link to the current BIOS i'm running:
https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/g4uj29us.exe

Thanks in advance!

PS: I'm willing to donate for help!

I'm currently thinking about just directly flashing the bios.

If i bought these two components (CH341A flasher + SOP8 Test Clip) would that work to flash the bios?

Hello guys,
I'd really appreciate if someone could help me to remove the whitelist from the T530 BIOS v2.65 in order to be able to install and run Atheros AR5B95 WiFi adapter (168C/002B/17AA/30A1).

Manufacturer and model: Lenovo Thinkpad T530 (2394DN4)
UEFI BIOS Revision: G4ETA5WW (v2.65)
Embedded Controller Program (ECP): G4HT39WW (v1.13)
Original UEFI BIOS by Lenovo: https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/g4uj29us.exe
Aftermarket WiFi adapter to be installed (vendor/device/sub-vendor/sub-device): Atheros AR5B95 168C/002B/17AA/30A1

As far as I learnt from previous threads, there are two EEPROM chips on the motherboard: MX25L6406E (8192KB) and MX25L3206E (4096KB). The BIOS region seems to be allocated into the MX25L3206E chip. I disassembled the notebook and located both chips on the motherboard. The next thing I did was to make full dump of the BIOS chip using a combination of RaspberryPi + SOIC Test Clip + FlashROM. I made five dump files (4096KB) with matching MD5, so I think that reading the EEPROM content went fine. You can find attached one of the dump files. It will be nice if somebody could help me with the appropriate BIOS modification in order to install my new Atheros WiFi adapter.
I will donate after successfully flashing the modified BIOS and assure that my notebook is booting fine with the newly installed adapter.
Many thanks in advance!

Hello BDMaster,

Generally, I don't run Windows on this notebook (OS X Hackintosh only). That's why it took some time to install OS and generate output from the specified tools.
Find attached everything needed for the BIOS WiFi whitelist removal along with full dumps of both EEPROM BIOS chips (MX25L6406E - 8192KB and MX25L3206E - 4096KB).

BIOS backup via Universal BIOS Backup: https://www.sendspace.com/file/dtb3j4
BIOS backup via BACKUP Tools 14a: https://www.sendspace.com/file/2t5o0f
Aftermarket WiFi adapter to be installed (vendor/device/sub-vendor/sub-device): Atheros AR5B95 168C/002B/17AA/30A1
Stock WiFi adapter installed: PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8176&SUBSYS_819510EC&REV_011

I really appreciate your help and will be waiting for the modified BIOS along with any instructions regarding HW flashing and so on.
Thank you in advance for your great support!
