M2NPV-VM to support Phenom II & Athlon II?
#11
Hmmmm... are you using the 1801 beta bios. awdbios editor is CRAP, NEVER USE IT! The text support is simply updating the AGESA name table, should be a no problem. Post the version you want and Ill have a look.

Thanks so much!

Here is the link to the 1801 bios http://www.sendspace.com/file/f2ay33

I really appreciate your time.
Also perhaps you could also change the bios version to 1901 too to prevent confusion after the change.

I like your website btw, shall i stay over here or is it best if i register over there too? :p

Thats me fully registered on computer limbo!

So what programs are best to use to break down a bios? I have borg number one's bios tools pack at that in the award section it contains lots of tools but most are obscure and don't seem to work. awdbedit i had to copy the plugins to the root directory out of the plugin directory to make it work lol. How easy is the task overall? Do you have to write lots of code or is it simply a few value changes in the right places?
Just trying to read up on AGESA and it says:

AGESA, an acroynm for 'AMD Generic Encapsulated Software Architecture', is a bootstrap protocol by which system devices on AMD64-architecture mainboards are initialized.

The AGESA software in the BIOS of such mainboards is responsible for the initialization of the processor cores, memory, and the HyperTransport controller.

AGESA documentation is only available to AMD partners that have signed a non-disclosure agreement.

Can't find info on it anywhere.... mental lol

OK. A lot of people who are new to BIOS Modding seem to get sucked into all of these old tools, and they easily get frustrated (I was an example a while back Big Grin)

So for the award bioses, there are a couple of key tools.

MODBIN= This tool allows you to view the bios menu structure add and remvoe items/ hide and unhide.

CBROM= Allows you to extract and replace ROMs in the bios.

Those are the two "meats" in award editing. Then you get into AWARD TOOL for SLICs, and then the real pros can disassemble a bios with knowledge of binary, hex, and assembly language (in that order) So, its a very interesting learning curve, but we always value new recruits to help us out with all of our requests. also, it depends on how difficult the job is. In your case, ASUS already added the native support, so all we have to do is add the right table for the detection of the CPU its initializing. But if asus had not done that, it would be a much bigger project

Thats great information thanks, i've got some serious googling to do.
You say that you are able to write accepted processors in the bios and i was wondering if you are tailoring it specificly for one particular cpu or are able to activly unlock the AM3's so they nativly display the correct name?

would you have to copy a detection table from another bios or write the table from scratch?

LOL, as you ask these questions I am working on it with a forum member. Wwhen a mobo is am2 and completly bare of phenom support, its adding all or nothing, its not a specific cpu, and for that matter its not a "table" but a series of assembly language calls. But if there native support with the exception of nknown CPU support, then u just replace the AGESA "table" to its newest version.

Wow i'm getting pretty excited about trying this out when you guys are done. I really hope cool and quiet works too ive been missing it since my upgrade from a X2 6400+ 3.2Ghz.

Is the latest AGESA table for the X6 Thubans going to be included or can you not access that till the 28th april chip release date or maybe it exceeds bios memory limit?

We simply have no way of getting the code until a board is released with that support.

Makes sense, we dont need x6 support just yet anyhoo.

Soooo... how far off is the bios if you don't mind me asking lol Tongue

Its just its 2am here and wondering if to stay up longer or goto bed and pick up in morning.

Also additionally feel free to add "TheWiz & Ace Bios" or "bios-mods.com ace bios" or "Psychokinetic Bios by TheWiz & Ace" version 1901

Ok i'm going to bed now, looking forward to trying this out tmrw.

Thanks again, night!
