Hi mate this version is not Rewritable as Error 280 = Eeprom Chip
Write Protected !
So You can only try to Downgrade to an old version and redo the result file to
check if the Eeprom Chip will be unprotected or You have to use the Tools
(SPI PGM + Clip) look here :

https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-R...5#pid74575

let me know
Regards

P.S. Unpack the result using WinRar v.5.20 or above !

Hello,

I'm newbie regarding bios, but I've got the 'error 28' after running 'backup tools 14a' on nearly the same laptop ('Lenovo TP Edge E531 N4IEUGE 6885-EUG'):

"Error 28: Protected Range Registers are currently set by BIOS, preventing flash access.
Please contact the target system BIOS vendor for an option to disable Protected Range Registers."

Does this mean, that this current installed bios is not flashable with a modded one (although you would manage to make it free of whitelist)?
Would there be the only way to actively program it with the here mentioned programmer utilities (perhaps also to solder out the bios-chip)?
Why would such a bios be updatable (flashable) with a newer version from original Lenovo download site, although "some areas" are 'protected range registers' preventing flash access. I'd assume, that with the Lenovo-exe with the new bios the execution can handle with this and set it to off (= no protected rnge registers) or not?
So there could be a way to get it managed (although it could be much afford to do so) !?
The attached zip include all automatic saved results after execution on this laptop under Win7-Pro-64bit. Could you please have a short look on it?

By the way: Lenovo is argumenting with the FCC reglements to not provide a whitelist-free bios, but they only apply to the USA, and my laptop is for European market ("E531 ... EUG"). The next model after mine is the E540, which has got the wireless card Intel Wireless 7260ac dual band (which I wanted to change to) built in. Only change in this model is the chipset, the resulting wireless radiation strength is the same except that it acts also in the 5 GHz band. There are no restrictions in Germany because of the existence of ac-routers such as my fritzbox 7490, which is acting  also in this dual band range. So it could be difficult for Lenovo to persist in this argument under german law, and I have in mind to go the law way to make Lenovo offer a new whitelist-free bios at least for the german models. Customers must have the right to upgrade there own machines with compliant hardware, and problematic upgrades could simply be officially warned by the manufacturer that one could affect applicable law. Then it is in responsibility of the customer and not a "castrated" product.
What do you think of my above arguments?
Best regards
liverhook

I purchased an Intel AC 7620 for my laptop before I was aware of this whitelist nonsense. I have tried the IBM 1802 removal tool with no success. I would like to be able to use my new wifi card. Can anyone here help me to remove or disable the white list?

afaik It's write protected. EVen with downgrade enabled in bios. I read some laptops have hardware switches/screws that enable writing to bios after init. Nothing at all could be done on software level?

From what I read writing protection is handled by uefi driver. So right now I am looking into UEFIpatcher.
Cheers.
Your bios chip is rewrite protected
Bios mod can be flashed using SPI-programmer+SOIC8 clip only
