Phoenix BIOS unlocking possible?
#11
Any progress on unlocking phoenix bios? I need pci express options enabled (phoenix trustedcore). I'd be willing to make a nice contribution to anyone who can help me.
Thanks in advance

There is a great deal of progress being made with microcode updates and virtualization support in phoenix bioses, but without sourcecode it is indeed troublesome.

Sorry if I missed this, but is it possible to get a Phoenix BIOS modified to support virtualization?

I've just gotten a Acer Aspire 7552g (AMD Phenom || X4 N930) and after installing ubuntu I realized that hardware virtualization was not supported when trying to install 64-bit Win7 on VirtualBox.

Current bios is v1.04 available here

Appreciate any help. Thanks.

Ok thanks. I think I am ready to give up.

What makes the Phoenix bios so difficult to modify?

generally the lack of released tools for it , award has modbin6 to change the hidden options and ami has amibcp but phoenix only has Phoenix Bios Editor which shows the options but not the hidden ones. The process of Phoenix unlocking is very long winded and complicated

Hi marro2000,

I have take a look in your BIOS & I did found hidden Virtualization menu. I'm actually surprise that VT is disabled on AMD machine. I already check your processor & I found it did support VT. On further investigation, I found token/address 0x375 in NVRAM is the one responsible disabling/enabling VT mode. Please use SYMCMOS.exe tool to set 0x375 to 0001. There are a lot of tutorial/example about how to use SYMCMOS out there. Just google. When you have done, turn OFF your computer & turn it ON again. VT should be enabled now & you should be able to install 64bit OS on VirtualBox. Use this information at your own risk. I will not responsible for any problem. Good luck. Wink

I have a Clevo M570RU-U and for some reason it has the dumbed down trustedcore bios with next to no options to tweak, being a performance laptop, you'd think it would have a feature rich bios Sad

You can find bios updates here: usftp.clevo.com.tw/ALLBIOS/M57xRU/ I'd like to know if this bios can be unlocked to some extent?

I also have another question, the machine has two bioses, system bios and something called an EC bios? I think it controls the fans, anyway the machine I have has space for an 3rd fan for the cpu but there is no bios support for it...just wondered if it could be edited to add the extra fan? as the connector & case grill are there, it's just lacking the bios support.
