    Vould like to get some help unlocking this bios so I can use virtualbox on it. Here's my Bios dump I made from Bios Backup Toolkit, it was in .rom extension but I changed it to .fd if that gives any problems just change it back to .rom, I was just trying my luck at modding unsuccessfully.

I have the A6 1450 model with HD 8250 graphics card, not the one with A4 cpu model. I also tried a method to unlock the advanced options through a mix and match of 3 different methods from certain forums. The method goes as follows:

I found this application named H2OUVE which gives a dump of bios variables, a user was giving out modded vars.txt but I forgot from which thread or forum. But anyways, moving on since I didn't want to register on forums, just wanted to avoid that (P.S sorry for that, although I ended up having to register here for help) so I made some changes to the vars.txt myself.

On another thread (from this forum or other perhaps) I found ways to enable the advanced section of the bios through two different methods, first was using linux and the second was with a boot64.efi file (which I couldn't find at all, I guess it was part of InsydeH20 Bios modification Tool, the download links weren't working and I couldn't find a copy of it online). With the instructions that were provided with the second method I got the guid of the section that I needed to modify "A04A27F4-DF00-4D42-B552-39511302113D" was that which was named as Custom Setup for me.

I confirmed that it was the section I needed to change for 2 other reasons. From the second method I could see the Variable Size to be 635 (0x27b in hex) and that the first method using a linux bootable pendrive talked about changing two variables 0x21b and 0x21c. For me I had two variables with data size of 635 or 0x27b and had the same GUID. In there I changed the
"00000210: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 " => "00000210: 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 01 00 00 00" (which the first method with linux instructed to change) for both my variables having 0x27B data size. I saved the file, I set the variables with the command "h2ouve -sv vars-mod.txt" and they got updated. (Although I had some variables turned in as failed but when I rebooted and ran the command to fetch in the bios variables once again with "h2ouve -gv vars.txt" I had the modified value in it so I knew that it got saved and it wasn't temporary, as one of the users who followed the linux method stated that his values for the 0x21B wasn't permanent.)

I don't know if it's a correct method or whether it should or should not work, but since I tried to make do with the instructions myself the way I saw it, it should have worked, but when I rebooted I didn't find any advanced bios menu or anything at all in the bios settings. Maybe I am wrong and it shouldn't have worked and thus it didn't, it wasn't meant to work like that perhaps.

I could have followed the option using a linux bootable pendrive, but alas I am on legacy mode not uefi mode, I don't want to use the uefi mode and thus disabled it and that method required that option, uefi secureboot mode disabled and supervisor password to be set, which I don't want to set or keep on my system. Maybe that is the reason it didn't work, in which case it would be a bummer if I can't activate the AMD-V virtualization tech on my netbook without UEFI. Besides converting to UEFI mode would require me to install my windows once again which I am unable to do so right at this moment, lots of work on it currently which I'd need to take a backup of and for which I am reluctant to do right now.

That's why I came in here to ask for help getting the modded Bios file. Keep in mind I don't want to have to activate the UEFI mode, so please answer accordingly. If I can't use the VT without that that will be a real let down for the netbook for me aside for all of the other letdowns it has shown me over the year.

(P.S. If anyone wants references to those forums or threads where I got material/tools/instructions from I can look for them again and link them up here. And please be nice if I did something wrong, thanks.)

Edit3: I made some mistakes in referencing the variables, 0x21b and 0x21c were variable references in that data for the referred GUID above and 0x27B was just the size for the variable and nothing
else. But even though it doesn't make much difference, I just assumed those variable references wrong. I also looked for the variable and changed it to one as suggested to turn on the
virtualization (0x0F4) variable reference but ha I still don't have the advanced options.

I hope it doesn't has anything to do with the UEFI mode, since that's a no go for me right now and I'd be too bummed out with that fact. Recently tech equipments have a thing for not working properly for me.

Edit4: I saw a video on youtube, for another acer aspire and the method should work. I don't know if I am modding the wrong vars or what, or maybe that it really needs UEFI mode to be active,
which I think I'll avoid at all cost perhaps, I don't want to use UEFI mode and also I am using Windows 7 on my netbook because of personal issues with windows 8 and 10. Can anyone
confirm if that's the case and I really need UEFI for it to work.


Edit5: well seemingly not getting any help and by mistake destroying my windows 7 installation after setting the partition to gpt (which was a critical mistake on my part I ended up losing all of my stuff and couldn't recover anything)

I tried to do the Linux method in which I got another error of the efivars not being able to mount the point, so I ended up using that tool (H2OUVE) once again. I forgot I read somewhere that Linux increases 4 bytes of data to the files and thus I was changing the wrong variables. Instead of 0x21B and 0x21C the part that needed changes was 0x217 and 0x218 to enable the advanced page and 0x0F0 instead of 0x0F4 for virtualization and I enabled the page and the settings successfully.

I just wish I wasn't reckless enough in destroying all my work and have figured that part out earlier. Also that the mods here instead of customizing the bios files themselves give a generalized instruction set also so that users don't need to wait for someone to do all of the work. I was doing everything alright only if I knew that Linux increases those 4 bytes in the uefi file and that's why I had 27B instead of 27F in windows.

Anyways if anyone stumbled upon this I hope this helps. The points I referenced are for V5 122P model and any other they work on (check other forums if you find similar reference for other models)

We are going to modify the NVRAM Variables they control the Advanced and Power Bios Menu Tabs (Hidden Page) and the virtualization (SVM support).

To get these variables we have to extract the SetupUtility FE3542FE-C1D3-4EF8-657C-8048606FF670 module from the Bios ,
so we will use the CodeRush (the Big Bios Modder and tool's author) UEFI Tool :

Then open by this tool the stock bios file or the bios backup too and search the text "SetupUtility", it will find the module GUID FE3542FE-C1D3-4EF8-657C-8048606FF670,
double click on it to select and set choice the PE32 chunk and by the right mouse click choice extract "as body" it, now we have to use the Donovan6k Universal IFR Extractor
(Donovan6k is the other Big Bios Modder) :

Modify and save the file with varsmod.txt name.
Go into H2OUVE tool put this file and write back the variables, if you don't know the commands here there are :

Hi Guys, I have an Acer Aspire V5-122P. I have 2GB di RAM on machine board and I have added 8GB in one module.
The BIOS recognizes 10GB of RAM and the sis.op also, but the sis.op can use only 1.45 GB of RAM.
I have removed the module of 8GB, and I have the same problem. The BIOS version is the latest 2.12 and its menu is very small to setup the machine. Can you help me? Can you send me any mod BIOS to try to resolve this problem? I have seen the various link in this thread but they are offline. Thank you to all.
