Dell Latitude 3540 SLIC 2.1 mod request
#1
Hello!

Is it possible to add/enable SLIC 2.1 on this laptop?
Manufacturer: DELL
Model: Latitude 3540
Bios revision: A10
BIOS download link: http://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER02803522...540A10.exe
Laptop support URL (svctag is 4H8HW32): http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/b...32/drivers

Backups made by InsydeFlash, BIOS_Backup_TooKit_V2.0, and ACPI Tables RWEverything report:
http://rghost.ru/private/8PHYB9jQV/ac988...2b3eb3f424

When made backup - InsydeFlash said:
Quote:>InsydeFlash.exe backup.fd /g

Done: Read Information from ROM OK.
Warning: ME is locked. The ME region of the saved file is invalid.

Backup tool enabled controls only after Custom checkbox was marked [v].

Thanks in advance!

Here is a results:

Universal BIOS Backup Toolkit: http://rghost.ru/private/8gnBgbNRK/614cf...de9afd20d9
For second link - included 4M and 8M dump and startup error message + 8M manual setting screenshot.
Tools and InsydeFlash says actual size is 8M. Checked yesterday dumps (posted above with rw report) & today - difference is only in boot order things, and InsydeFlash adds some bytes in dump beginning & different first 4M fill - 00 instead of FF, in general all the same.
Pleace tell if I need to change something in settings if some areas is unreadable.

Preferred SLIC 2.1 looks most native for this laptop (ACPI tables say it's COMPAL and some marked as CL09): http://rghost.ru/private/7MtHfTx7j/37746...56f4079b33

If it will make some really useful features open - I'd like to see it fully unlocked for sure Smile

Also I have some questions about modding this sort of BIOS-es. Can you give me some info how that things is done and why there is so strange methods to make SLIC visible ?

So You saw that We have SLP 2.1 = SLIC 2.1 . . .

System Locked Pre-installation 2.1 = System License Internal Code 2.1

Glossary:
SLP = System Locked Preinstallation
SLIC = System License Internal Code
OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer

SLIC = Header file with RSA Key + Marker 2.1 = Module
RSA Key 2.1 = Module
Marker 2.1 = Module
Then there are one ore more ACPI Module(s) that controls the Activation Process = ACPI Module

So when You say to modify SLIC to ELIC You are talking about ACPI Module where It controls the
procedure . . .
The simplest way is to change SLIC to SLAC (PMT 259) or ELIC or other and prepare a complete
Header Module as there are only 2.0 version or empty !
Many times We can find only RSA + Marker 2.0 and not 2.1 so We can change to 2.1 or add new one !
It's complicate to reduce all this tecnique in some words but is better and easiest to use PMT 259
with an ACPI RW file to modify by the Tool Bios and add the SLIC 2.1 !
Another way to add SLIC 2.1 is to use a SLP Marker 2.1 this tool is provided by Bios Manufacturers to
their Service guys to add and modify the Laptop Asset and Configurations !
I hope that this brief explanation is enough for your interest !
I will update a Bios Mod Unlock + Slic 2.1 (based on Serg008 Mod) !

Here You gp (flash using Sleep Bug Method) :

Applied your mod (after fixing a little mistake in bat file) - works great.
Thank you!
Lot of settings in setup program appeared Smile
SLIC also appeared, but this laptop is strange - SLIC toolkit 3.2 doesn't see anything, but RW Everything and AIDA64 confirmed SLIC table in place, and windows was activated immediately.

About theory - I usually did mods myself before using corresponding AndyP tools,
but with modern laptops with EFI it's everytime something new and different Smile
"PMT 259" you mean Phoenix Tool 2.59 ? BTW, 2.60 update is out.

For educational purposes I try to repeat Serg008's mod myself.
With this ROM PhoenixTool says that's "Invalid RW Everything report": http://i.imgur.com/Zx6MA8u.png, so will try without it.
After default mod there appears file with x2 Pubkey and Marker entries, but still empty header that not looks good.
After that I tried advanced settings from this article and manually modified in WinHex 3 modules:
SLIC to ELIC replaced twice in each of: {AFC04099-0D39-405D-BE46-846F08C51A31} and {D4E91137-43F4-4E56-B989-D3D0E7B16955}
Also added SLIC pubkey and marker part to 374-bytes {7E374E25-8E01-4FEE-87F2-390C23C606CD} leaving header in place.
And bingo! Got the same binary output as Serg008.
Can you tell, if I missed some steps or something can be done by AndyP's tool instead of WinHex ?

Still not understand if it's important to keep original header in SLIC module, or it can be completely replaced with Dell one ("SLICv INSYDEH2O BIOS ACPI" or "SLICv ЬDELL CL09 MSFT" part), of cource in binary, copied as text just for better reading?

If You will read a lot of posts ago on MDL about PMT You will find the Developing and Discoveries.
So It has Dynamic mode modifying existing (and incomplete) SLIC version, Module mode adding a
new (and complete) SLIC into Bios !
About Module You don't need the RW file, but using Dynamic is better to get It !
Every Bios has an own history and needs, so as I said is not possible to reduce all experiences to
few words !
The REAL BIG EXPERT on SLIC MOD is SERG008 (the Big One) so ask to him and learn !!!
