Dell Inspiron 15" 7537 (A13 BIOS)
#1
Star
Hello,

I could not get SLIC to work on the Dell Inspiron 7537 BIOS. I've tried lots of tools myself and found no luck.

I am looking to overclock my system, remove the Dell boot splash logo, BIOS OEM information, and change all other hidden settings.

When I extract the ROM (even without any modifications), it removes the ability to flash the BIOS using WinPhlash due to it saying the extracted ROM is an "invalid" file.

BIOS download link (it is an EXE installer): http://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER03073347M/1/7537A13.exe

Thank you,

Hi @BDMaster,

The first file was a virus and I had to remove it.
The second file was not a virus and it has successfully backed up the BIOS, thank you Smile

I've uploaded the BIOS ROM here: http://1drv.ms/1jdpWFP

I couldn't find a virus-free cracked version of AIDA64, but I downloaded the trial of the Extreme version.

Here's the AIDA64 report: http://1drv.ms/21aFVXb

Thanks again,

Hi mate,
These tools are not trojan or virus or Others, They are tools to read RAM Protected and
make tests on PC so the results files are essentials to find a way to flash the Bios Mod !
i need the result file from 1st tool . . .
Use this tool run It as Admin and upload here the result file :

http://rghost.net/658W4s2SF

Disable your antivirus as It's a False Positive and get the result file as I have to check if
the Eeprom Chip (containig Bios) is Write Protected or We can Flash the Bios Mod !
let me know
Regards

P.S. I have done many Inspiron . . .

Dell Inspiron 3442 - 3542 - 5748
Dell Inspiron 3443 - 3543 - 5749
Dell Inspiron 3537 - 3737 - 5537 - 5737 - Vostro 2521 (A07)
. . . more and more and this is new for me, I haven't got It yet !

Hi mate,

Your Eeprom Chip is Write Protected = Error 280: Failed to disable write protection for the BIOS space!

So now We have to find a way to reflash the Bios Mod !
Try to Downgrade t a previous version and redo the result file (You can unpack It using WinRar v.5.20
or above and check Errors by yourself) !
Let me know
Regards

Exclamation
:/ Oh man, this has turned into the worst case scenario...

I've tried this tool with the same Dell A12, A10, and A09 BIOSes with the same error.
For some reason, 2 versions of the Intel flashing application randomly stop working and crash on me.

My antivirus software was completely shut down during this process.

I think we'll need an SPI programmer, I guess...
There has to be some region in the BIOS that is unlocked besides one in the EEPROM.

Question
Okay, before I continue with this operation, I have some questions.

  1. Would I actually be taking apart my motherboard and placing test clips inside or will I just need to use the USB device to flash the EEPROM chip?
  2. I've disabled Secure Boot and everything "secure" inside the BIOS. There is still some hope left. I ran the same BIOS backup tool and got a different message (not the same [FPTw.exe] cannot be run on the current platform one but similar) on some versions of the flash tool — results are attached here: http://1drv.ms/1PXIHdi

The error is "Error 28: Protected Range Registers are currently set by BIOS, preventing flash access. Please contact the target system BIOS vendor for an option to disable Protected Range Registers."

Also, why does it run in x32 when my system is x64? I've run it as administrator. It's so weird.
  3. What is the risk of actually bricking my motherboard? Would it be easy to ruin the entire system or would I just have to be very careful?
  4. What would be a good, cheap EEPROM flashing stick if it is not possible to write directly to the BIOS? The size of the ROM is 8MB. Could I use the CH341A programmer and the SOIC8 SOP8 clips in the tutorial?
Here are some BIOS pics so you can understand it better:
http://1drv.ms/1R5DPnb

I tried using a Phoenix tool from another user at MyDigitalLife to mod the BIOS but I couldn't figure out why it was not flashing in WinPhlash. It gave me a -161 error "Part Table Signature not found in the Interface" and I'm using v1.7.16.0 on your Mod Downloads folder (does that matter?)
Link: http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads...EFI-BIOSes

I haven't tried the fix yet, but I'm not sure if I could continue flashing the BIOS from WinPhlash: http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads...ash-solved

By the way, I am new to BIOS modding so I might not be familiar with the tools and techniques very well.

Thanks for your patience,
Exec360

@BDMaster, if this will help you, my BIOS also includes UEFI booting options, not just legacy ones, which is why I was unsure about whether to post in the UEFI forum or not.

Will you continue to help BIOS modding or not?
