Lenovo G770 - Already Unlocked BIOS, need Ram Settings to work with 16GB of memory
#1
Hello All;

I just got in a Lenovo G770 Laptop yesterday for my Birthday.
I really hate the BIOS, and not being able to do anything within it, as I do in my other systems.
Could someone unlock this for me?

Here is the link to my BIOS (64 Bit)
http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobi..._64bit.exe

The attched picture is not the best, it was taken from a Video that I made earlier.
I hope that it will work, for those to see the current state.

The BIOS have been updated to the current version, of which is the link above.

Thank you

Here is the dump for my BIOS
http://www.darkeffects.com/LENOVO.zip

Can someone please assist on this?
I need to be able to access the Advanced tabs and anything else that is available.
This is the first time that I have run into an issue, where I do not have access to everything within the BIOS.

PLEASE HELP!!!

This worked

Format USB Drive to Fat32
Rename the downloadable file
LENOVO-40CN07WW_V3.06__UlkMenus.rom
to
PIWG1.bin
Copy the .bin file over to your usb fat32 drive.

Follow instruction below.
(In the last step, once you cut the system back on, you do not have to hold down the FN+B key the entire time.
I never did get a first Beep. It took about 2 minutes for it to start beeping.
Once the beeping starts, give it about 4 straight beeps.
Unplug the cable, and pull the battery out.
Count to 5
Put the battery back in, and boot the system.
Press F2 to get into the BIOS, and you should have everything that you need.)

1. turn off the laptop
2. Unplug the power cord.
3. insert the flash drive
4. press and hold Fn-B key combination
5. while holding Fn-B, plug in the power cord
6. still holding Fn-B, press Power button
the computer will spin up the fan but the screen will remain black.
If it finds the appropriate file, it'll beep again, read it in,
and will start flashing the BIOS. Once it's completed flashing the BIOS,
it will continuously beep, the power button will not respond, neither
will any key combinations (Scared me at this point, thought i bricked my motherboard).
I unplugged the laptop from the power, pulled the battery to kill the laptop.
Once I put the battery back in, I hit the power button and it powered up and ran without issue.

I am still playing around with the BIOS, I just did this last night.
The system is running stable, and there are no issues so far.
I was able to change my Dedicated Video Memory from 64mb to 128mb
(The Video Card has nearly 2GB, to bad I am not given an option to go higher, but 128mb is better than the default 64mb)
I am checking in on the Hardware VT right now, along with Memory.
I have 16GB of memory in my system, and it only calls for 8GB.
The BIOS now reads all memory accurately in both slots.
Just not on the "Information" Tab, it still reads it improperly.

OK, that should rap this one up.
Enjoy.

Hello All;
(Please read the information below, fully.)

This is my old thread, with information on my BIOS, of which are already unlocked.
https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-L...-InsydeH20
I have done research and found out that the chipset supports 16GB of RAM.
Now, from what I have tested.

I had used 2 different models of 16GB Ram.
Both worked on the laptop, and would run for 1 - 5 hours, before crashing the system, and causing a blue screen.
Windows 7 recognized the memory and used it beautifully. The system was fast and ran like a charm.
I ran Adobe After Effects and Sony Vegas for test and it was twice as fast than the 8GB of Ram.
So, it worked and worked well. Until the Bluescreen.
I kept on testing the 16GB of Ram for several days to make sure I had tried everything and still blue screened before I returned it for a refund. This was nearly 4 years ago.

The first set I tried was:
G.SKILL 16GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600)
However, I cannot find the 2nd set that I tried. I think it was (PC3 10666)

Now, I read that the Chipset supports 16GB of ram, but the RAM in the BIOS needs to be done something too in order to work with the RAM without crashing the system.

Any idea's on what needs to be done, in order to make this laptop do the 16GB of ram?
It is really cheap to get the RAM now through eBay, like $60.00 for 2x8GB sticks.

I am getting an i7 Processor this coming up week. The memory will be the only thing left to upgrade.
If I can get this thing to do the 16GB Ram, and the i7, with the 1TB drive, and Windows 10 Pro.
I am looking at selling this system by the summer. (Need to purchase something with better graphics)

Any suggestions would be wonderful.
Thanks all

Carrzkiss

I meant with 16GB RAM.
And your laptop doesn't use latest BIOS - 40CN11WW(V3.10).

Sorry, I do not have any 16GB sticks anymore.
As I stated, that was nearly 4 years ago.
And yes, I know that it is not the latest BIOS, as when I did the BIOS update.
The only BIOS-MOD I could find at the time was what I have now.

I just found the MODED BIOS for that version.
https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/archive/...12013.html

I downloaded it, and am going to flash the BIOS here in a little while.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention, as I had forgotten all about the BIOS being outdated for this long.
