Sony VAIO VPCZ1290X
#1
Hello,

The official BIOS: http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/swu-downlo...group_id=6 (mirror: http://yunpan.cn/QUn5kKH3pwDNL )
My original dumped BIOS (I don't care very much about sensitive info, second laptop, but I'm not sure, whether it will always work): http://yunpan.cn/QUn55TAfPYLUh
Unlocked BIOS (without UEFI modules and UEFI boot mode): http://yunpan.cn/Q9i2zQIwaGazd
Patching GUIDE: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sony/473...-bios.html (advanced_menu.py http://yunpan.cn/QUn5kKH3pwDNL )
I did it back in the days for my vaio Z1 VPCZ1290X (same BIOS Version). The method requires, that you patch *your own* bios (single bit) to enable advanced menus.

For me is important to find people interested in UEFI Boot, that's the option, which is still invisible with avdanced menu unlocked, here's why: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sony/473...ios-6.html

The guy here added modules to a similar BIOS:
http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-UN...g-EFI-Boot

Here some steps (not that straightforward) to take to add UEFI Modules:
http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads...FI-BOOT%29
- I lost the track on "ezh2o bitflips the header crc byte of a FFS entry". Someone ideas? Smile

====
From laptopreview:

This "Opcode 0x27 (2)" is a check of something in a different configuration variable store (not the "Setup" variable we are changing). This EFI opcode is called EFI_IFR_VARSTORE_DEVICE and it means that the setup application is checking somewhere else for a TRUE condition before showing this.

Now, you can directly set VSS regiser 0x7E to 0x0 and register 0x7a to 0x0 (in the same way you set register 0x258 to 0x1 to show Advanced menu) but this has no effect - UEFI boot will not work. I tried it.

====

1. Will it be helpful to take a look / post bios from a new Sony Vaio SVZ1311C5E where UEFI works (but no secure boot :[ )?
2. I did unpack bios to modules with guid-names, Phoenix recognizes them partially. How we can say which are responsible for UEFI
====

Any help is much appreciated! That's a good thing to pimp, move to speedy UEFI boot! I don't even care about uefi-Boot-Form, I care that machine started in uefi mode.

Thanks for all contributors and devs on the forum!

So I have followed the
http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads...UEFI-BOOT)

1. extracted required (not tested) modules for uefi from
http://rajko.info/acer/tools/ACER5742G_1...FIBOOT.rar
with PhoenixTool 2.71 (open ROM, Click "Structure" at the bottom, navigate a module click Extract, will be in the same folder with ROM, extension MOD):

emuvariable, diskio, partition, fat, terminal and launchapp.

2. inserted them to dumped R3031C3.ROM (4MB) with EzH20 2.1.0.17 (without removing any modules) by doing "Insert Module" (to FV0), changed the second logo, sized 138x49 and saved as new file.

3. flashed with FLASHIT.exe at the and laptop powered off, on power on the disk-led kept blinking with NO BIOS/POST, 20-30 sec later fan goes up, gradually down, laptop shuts down / restarts.

CURRENTLY: RECOVER WORKING BIOS. ON "EDIT3" from the article above.

Merry Christmas.
