Asus N550jk Bios Problem (Wrong Bios)
#1
hi , thank you for your time

i have Asus n550jk . my hard drive was infected with bad sectors which led to system being still on windows logo, and although i managed to revive it once myself , it suffered the same faith again a few month after . at the time my finances wouldn't allow me to send it for repair ( guaranty was expired by then) so i let it sit and used it mostly as a usb hub for charging my phone or portable speaker for about two year , anyway last month i finally send it for repair at a local repair shop , it took them 3days to inform me that my hard-drive was out ( which i already knew and had told them at the Beginning - looking back this should have been my first alert ) , so i asked them to replace it with a 2t hard drive ( the original was 1t ) and setup a win10 on it ( original was 8.1) , it took them about 10 days to buy and replace the new hard-drive which should have been my second alert , at last since my persistence to get back the laptop , they called me to get it . when i was testing the pc i found out first they setup a 8.1 win ( my third alert ) and second my geforce 850m gpu is not recognized by system , so when i asked them they told me that its no problem ?!!!! and if i want to have it fixed they at least need 3 more weeks . so i took the laptop home and after quite few attempt to manually install the nvidia i noticed that the idiots have flashed the wrong bios on my system ( n550jv instead of n550jk ) . trying to use asus ezflash and winflash to correct their mistake , it says the wrong model bios cant be install . and i'm sure you can understand why i rather to throw the laptop into fireplace instead of sending it back to that idiot squad . i found this topic here that you guys helped someone to fix the same issue they had
https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-H...del?page=5
so i am coming to you for help . any help would be appreciated
if you need any additional info just ask .
thank you for your time

That, or they switched out your motherboard! Why did they touch the BIOS at all, when you're paying them to replace/swap out hard drive???

Maybe you and that guy in other thread send system to the same repair shop?? Big Grin you'll have to send him a PM and see if you are in same area or not, if you are, and it ends up being same shop then you guys both need to get on facebook or wherever you can post a review for these people and let everyone know how dumb they are Big Grin

Order two items I linked on post #2 - https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-H...#pid155225

You can get those from other sellers, or other stores etc, if you want faster shipping for more $$. Just be sure when you get the SOIC8 test clip if you don't use the link I posted there, be sure what you get comes with cable and isn't just the clip by itself. Some sellers show cable, but are only selling the clip, so if you are unsure ask them before you purchase

thanks man , i'll inform you when i get the parts
i really dunno what the f were they doing messing with bios , my guess is they were trying to boot the system without touching the hard and just formating the old hard and selling it as new or something like that ( it's kinda based on that when i told them to purchase a 2t instead of orginal 1t , it was like that i shattered their dream or something , and they took their sweet A.. time to replace it . although i dont think we are in the same area , i live in a hellhole ,but that's testament to worldwide range of idiocy .

They should have removed the HDD and swapped or did whatever, booting the system wasn't required in any of that process, but yeah even if they wanted to boot into the system or BIOS, that doesn't require/involve updating BIOS ever. Unbelievable people! Aside from order/wait time, if they didn't have the 2TB drive, it should only take an hour or so to do the HDD swap, depending on what they were saving/recovering from one to the other.

I can't download the link you posted, says not allowed.

They probably programmed in stock BIOS file to chip without ME FW, hard to know, but you'll find out for sure once programmer arrives. Can you see ME FW mentioned at BIOS main page?

Thanks for images, and I can see that HTML report now, not sure this shows ME anyway, but yes it's not in there.
Show me image of expanded motherboard section in HWINFO64. You do have to have Intel ME drivers installed for it to be visible in the OS

Systems may use different ME, so if they only flashed in the wrong BIOS region that may mess up the ME Functionality, or due to what they did they may have even build a stock ME FW without programming in settings, compiled that with stock incorrect BIOS region.

Or, you can dump current BIOS region with FPT and I can modify it so ME FW entry line is visible in BIOS main page, then we can see for sure what is going on. Anyway, we'll be able to see ME FW at BIOS Main page once I make it visible for you, then if we see 0.0.0.0 or N/A as version we know they also broke that, or it's broke due to wrong BIOS region in there etc. Never mind, it's not a hidden option on the JV or JK BIOS.

Lets see if you can dump ME region from DOS - Go to this thread and in the section "C" download the V8-V9 ME System Tools Packages (You'll probably need to try both, since ME FW is unknown)
https://www.win-raid.com/t596f39-Intel-M...Tools.html

Once downloaded, inside you will find Flash Programming Tool folder, and inside that a DOS folder.
Create a DOS Bootable USB, and copy all contents of the DOS Folder to the root of the USB (not in folder). Here is method to create DOS Bootable USB, if you don't already know or have a preferred method. Follow steps 1-4 to create bootable USB - https://www.win-raid.com/t3756f16-lt-Req...l#msg53541

Boot to DOS, and at the command prompt type the following command and send me the created file >> FPT.exe -me -d me.bin

Additionally, download this, run it and look at the bottom of the results, does it show ME FW version?
http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?fil...6279971277

This may also require ME drivers install first, same as HWINFO would, so install those first if you have not previously (They wont install if ME Corrupt)
Choose Win8 or below, then in others section you'll find the ME driver packages (JV page, none of the options show ME drivers, so this may be part of the issue too)
https://www.asus.com/us/Laptops/N550JK/H..._Download/

It may all just have to wait until you have programmer and we can dump the chip and see what's actually going on in a much easier manner

hi , thank you for your response , i was a little busy and haven't had time to follow your instruction but good news the items arrived , i just had one question before we go any further , does changing the bios setting delete or corrupt my windows or i can leave my files on c: ?! what about other partitions ?! or do you suggest that i completely remove my files from the hard drive untill the bios fix is complete and reinstall windows again ?
