Dell Inspiron 530 / 530s v1.0.2 Experimental Unlocking & Upgrading Project
(01-31-2017, 10:02 AM)spankyg Wrote: Surprised to see this post still going.

First time poster here....never even realized my old 530 (DG33M03 mobo) had much life left to it.  Actually started researching CPU upgrades on my (slightly newer) P6T, started leaning about Xeon mods for it and somehow I stumbled across this thread!

So I grabbed the Dell 530 1.0.18 Flasher.zip many posts above mine, crossed my fingers and flashed my BIOS, and yep I see AHCI mode now (I have a Core2 Quad Q6600 in there right now so that's supported in the mod, I would assume).   I have a E5450 in flight now, with the adapter, so hoping this with all work out after I install it.

Many thanks for all that participated in this effort as it's still helpful for some of us who are late to the party.  Smile

I took the ROM file from two posts back, got the DELL SLIC bin & matching certificates and used the Award tool to make the new BIOS.
Bios boots comes up fine and boots all OS's I have.

Used SLIC Tool kit v3.2 to verify the SLIC version and it confirms 2.1.

Not yet tested on installing Win 7 yet.

Update: Installed Dell's Win 7 OEM. All fine. Then, Updated to Win 10 and it auto activated. Again, All fine and works well on the ageing system.

Thank you - will try later today - all the dropbox links are dead.  Got a 530 fro free and wanted AHCI .

This thread is confusing. I have a Dell G33M03 board. Which post has the best BIOS for Xeox quad core and which post has best BIOS for SLIC?

Hi guys!

Found this tread after I got this Inspiron 530 from a neighbor (not s, sb or anything else)
It got a Foxconn G33M02 in it, Rev A01 (on sticker), 0RY007.
From around 2007, I recon.

I got Windows 10 Pro 64bit running.
Bios is 1.0.18
CPU is E6750
2gb ram (1+1, but there are 4 slots)
Bios: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG
GPU: Microsoft Basic display adapter (? ATI Atombios)

It runs smooth, but I want more options in BIOS, like some of you guys and Dansolo have done.
Will this procedure work on my 530?

Any other tip on how to upgrade CPU/RAM/GPU, is much appreciated Big Grin

Hello dabb,

Will this support E8500 processor? I have the same motherboard G33M02. Also, to update the bios should I just run the launch.bat as admin or do I need to perform this update in dos mode? Currently, I am running bios 1.0.16v and I am having few issues with it. First issue is that, sometimes it will not wake up from sleep mode and the only way I can resume the system is by removing the power cable. The second issue is that, the visualization option often disable itself in the windows after several reboots or shutdowns, but the option stays enabled in the bios. Thanks.

I have not tried this bios my self. I only have the bios version 1.0.18 provided by Dell. I have 8gb ram (yes Big Grin
Samsung 4GB 2X 2GB 2RX8 PC2-6400 DDR2 800Mhz DIMM Desktop Memory Unbuffered RAM) and my board is g33m02 REV A01 (on sticker) (and serial: CN-0RY007). I have the Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 SLB9L 3.33 GHz Dual-Core, witch I belive is the best cpu I can use on this board.

You will have to follow the instruction from post #42 if you want to use the bios attached, but I will recommend to use the bios from Dell first. (for some reason I cant attach the bios from Dell, even when I rename it from .exe to .ex_) Are you shure you got the Dell version board? Good luck Smile

Yes, the motherboard version is correct. The only reason I went back to the 1.0.16v from 1.0.18 is because for some reason the E8500 was not working with .18v. I followed the instructions provided on post # 42, but when I run the launch.bat. It gives me an error: WinFlash: Load Driver Failed!.

The Inspiron 530s (slimline)/ 530 has a FoxConn G33m02 motherboard made to Dell's specifications and will support (as far as I know) the following Socket LGA 775 processors:
Intel Celeron processor 430
Intel Celeron Processor 420 (1.6 GHz, 800 FSB)
Intel Pentium Dual-Core 2140 (1.6 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)
Intel Pentium Dual-Core 2160 (1.8 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)
Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5200(2.5 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)
Intel Pentium E6500 2.93 GHz dual core processor
Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 (1.8 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)
Intel Core 2 Duo E4400 (2.0 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)
Intel Core 2 Duo E6320 (1.86 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 (2.13 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 (2.33 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB)
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 (2.66 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB)
Intel Core 2 Duo E7300 (2.66 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 (2.80 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
Wolfdale Core 2 Duo, E8400, 3.0GHz, 6MB, 1333FSB, 65W, E0
Wolfdale Core 2 Duo, E8500, 3.16GHz, 6MB, 1333FSB, 65W, C0
Wolfdale Core 2 Duo E8500 (3.16 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB)
Wolfdale Dual Core Kit, E8600, 3.33GHz, 6MB, 1333FSB, 65W, E0

You can use the same/default heatsink/fan and the 250w PSU Big Grin Remember new thermal compound.

Prior to installing the processor you need to check that you have BIOS Version 1.0.15, or higher, so it should work for you. But I would be more comfortably with the latest bios. Are you running 32 bit windows, then this is probably your problem. Run windows 7 x64 or newer (I`ll still in win7 x64, because win8 and win10 is garbage Dodgy

Does the Dell logo show up when you boot, and does it say only Inspiron under the logo? There are four different 530: 530, 530a, 530b, 530c (I don't know the difference, but some of them can run quad-core cpus, but only if you have the G33M03 mainboard and 350w PSU.
