[Test]Help with MXM structure error from bios LG R700 aka MSI MegaBook GX700(MS-1719)
#1
I recently updated my laptop from the original installed 8600m gs vga card to 9600m gt vga card 1gb. I know that those video cards are compatible, but i get an error for adding mxm structure and associate all callbacks to SBios. Also when i enter windows 7 x64bit and install the drivers from laptopvideo2go, i take bluescreen and a countdow, and that happens with every driver i tried.
Perhaps this card is not in the whitelist on the laptop bios.
I know that the video card is compatibe because there is an LG laptop that has this video card inside and has the same secifications like lg r700.
Could you please add it also on the whitelist?
Here is a link with both vga and laptop bioses. http://www.mediafire.com/?ttw69mj188u69km
And here is the Hardware ids from device manager for the vga card.

PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&SUBSYS_061C10DE&REV_A1
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&SUBSYS_061C10DE
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&CC_030000
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&CC_0300

Thanks in advance,
John

Seems to me not a whitelist problem but vbios matching problem.

thanks for your answer.
So, if i understood correct, you mean that vga card is flassed with the wrong bios?
How can i see what is the bios that match my vga card?
Any codes on the vga board that they can help me?
Could you please guide me? I would be greatfull ..

I guess vga card is correct, what it does not match is the way to hook to it that is coded in bios. Hard to solve, i think.

With other words you mean the problem is created by the system bios and the vga card is not compatible to the laptop? And no way to fix it?

Code:

seg000:80A8 push dx
seg000:80A9 mov dx, 8

hmmm, this piece of code semms to look for 3 concrete VGAs

0407 G84 [GeForce 8600M GT]
0425 G86 [GeForce 8600M GS]
0427 G86 [GeForce 8400M GS]

Which seems to be the 3 "friends" of your laptop. Different chipsets G84 and G86, but you want to insert G96 [GeForce 9600M GT] ... Don't know how much compatible are with that other oldies.

If you want to take the risk i can patch 0425 ID with your 0649 and you test Smile

The rom has no vbios included so it is read from the mxm card on boot time. Maybe it works, who knows.

Code:
ERROR: MXM Structure not found or invalid....Reflash MXM ROM or add MXM Structure and associated callbacks to SBIOS!..POST will be halted for 30 seconds and performance will be limited to..balanced performance mode until this is resolved

This error is present in the vga bios of the MXM card, not in the PC bios. Don't know if the hack above could be of some help, like i told you in my first explained answer.

Thanks mate, i hope now that i will install nvidia drivers not to have BSOD...
I will back with news, i hope good news Smile

Update: Well nothing changed i still have the error to add the mxm structure and also i take BSOD every time i try to install nvidia drivers. I am thinking to return the card and buy a card with G84-752-A2 chip will that be compatible?
Also, how you did the decode of the bios and you took that code? I am an electronics engineer and perhaps with IDA can do some tests also. You use ida or something else and what parameters you use?

Yes, i udes ida pro, extracted 1B module of your bios with MMTOOL and opened it in ida pro, processor "metapc" 16 bit treatment of file. Then just decode in the near of the offsets where i found the device ids.

Thanks very much i saw the code but i have no idea how to modify it.
Just a question what if we modify that code from:

seg000:80C1 cmp bx, 407h
seg000:80C5 jz short loc_80DC
seg000:80C7 mov ax, 1

To

seg000:80C1 cmp bx, 649h
seg000:80C5 jz short loc_80DC
seg000:80C7 mov ax, 1

Is it possible? And if it is possible could you please modify the original bios?
