Bios Mod Request for Tyan S2665
#11
I had tested setfsb but it does'nt work for my board. The Clockgenerator is not supported.
I think there is no way to use extern utility...
But the Xeon Prestonias have a free multiplier. They are'nt locked!

Thank you! The new functions are nice!
But... I know that xeons have a free multiplier... But it couldn't get higher than the original...
But that was my mistake, not yours!
There is another problem. When I go in the menu boot then the system get freeze...
Is there another methot to set the fsb? Wink
Okay, can I send you the donate via paypal?

Can you tell me please what is your XEON CPU version ............ its better to attach a pic for CPUZ as i need to knew all about your cpu to search for the right register and modify it to let the frequency ratio option is read/write not read only .
Also , note that not all XEON CPUs have the ability to change this register and the multiplier , so i need the pic from CPUZ to determine this issue .

Thank you

Wow, hi, it's nice to here from you about that thema!!!
The Pics are in the Attachment, but remember, it's not one CPU with more cores, they are really 2. The Xeon is based on the Pentium 4 with HT.
But it's another slot and it supports SMP (2 real CPU's)
So Windows says me, that I have 4.

Great thanks to you at the end!
Sebastian

I think it's not possible to mod this bios... Or is it?
And when somebody read this, I wish you all will have a great new year!

Hi Sebestian ,

I haven't forget you but I'm totally busy in my final exams which has started a week ago .
i have checked your cpu specs and found its modle sorted as an old xeon CPUs which in the intel datasheet equivalent to pentium CPUs and in these models , modifying the fsb register will cause the computer not to boot ,,,,,,,,,, your fsb register for your old xeon CPU is read only .
unlike other CPUs like newer xeon and intei core i series and some of core2 series have this register is read and write not read only .
When its read only , the cpu will not accept any other value for the fsb .
I don't knew if there is another way , but it seems bios will not accept anything .
Try using the intel XTU tool and see if its useful for you.
I'm sorry for my late response but i was really busy .
Thank you,
Ahmed

Is it possible to make another CPU work???
I've found another, it's the same socket, but it have the 800mhz fsb...
In original the board doesn't support the CPU but I think it could be possible?
It's this one..

I hope you can see all of the features what is interesting for you...
Have a happy new year 2012!

Due to chipset limitations of the E7505 you are only able to run FSB 400/533 processors on this mainboard. The fastest processor you could possibly upgrade to would be a gallatin/prestonia 2M with 3.2 GHz which wouldn't make much of a difference compared to your actual CPU. As there isn't an FSB adjustment option in the BIOS, the only way to overclock would be either by software or by doing a pin mod on a FSB 400 processor like a 3 GHz prestonia which leads to a rough 4 GHz. I don't really know that much about xeons but I think the prestonia is equivalent to the P4's northwood core which I doubt is able to hit 4 GHz, at least not without proper cooling (probably water) and a lot of juice which leads to the next problem as you can't increase vcore within the BIOS so you had to vmod the board.

e/ you could of course use a prestonia with a lower multiplier, 3.6-3.8 GHz might be possible with increased voltage. did you try to low the multiplier using the modified BIOS? these xeons do indeed have a lock for higher multis but you still should be able to decrease it if the mod actually works so you might want to watch for 400 FSB prestonias on ebay, they usually sell dirt cheap. although ocing without vmodding is probably not worth it as the performance increase would be marginal if any compared to your current processor.
