Recovering From A Bad Insyde Bios Flash
#31
(09-18-2009, 01:43 AM)1234s282 Wrote: Insyde Bios Recovery Procedure For Notebooks Big Grin

Download the original bios file ******.FD and rename it to ******.BIN and place it on a USB thumb drive.

Disconnected the AC adapter from the notebook.

Remove the battery from the notebook.

Insert the USB thumb drive into one of the USB ports on the notebook.

Held down the 'Windows' Key and the 'B' key.

Connect the AC adapter.

Press the 'Power' button on the notebook.

When the LEDs come on, let go of power button and the two keys held down earlier.

After about 10 seconds the notebook starts to read the USB thumb drive.

While searching for the file the notebook may beep once a second.

The number of beeps varies, depending on how big the USB drive is and
the number of files on it.

If the file was not found, the notebook will reset itself and try again.

If the file was found then it shouldnt take more than 30 seconds to load the file.
No beeping sounds are heard during the loading time.

When the file has loaded, the notebook starts flashing the bios file. This is indicated by beeps every 2

seconds.

This takes about 30-60 seconds.

About 5 seconds after the beeping stops the notebook will automatically shut itself down.

Switch on the notebook again.

BIOS should have recovered and the notebook should work again!

Hope this works for everyone!

I've followed all steps above but no beeping sounds just blinking led on caps lock. But I found it the right combination for HP Mini 200 is Win+B, I know it when I tried recover it with and without usb flash drive (please see here for detail: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04126730).
I think I don't have a problem anymore about key combination. My problem perhaps in usb flash drive or name of bios file. I use andy's tool but don't know what the name of bios, it pop up the header and marker. Which is the name of bios? I also look to other forum about naming bios and found it in here (https://forums.mydigitallife.info/thread...ible-names). I've followed it and no result.

For usb flash drive I format it to FAT. I put all files into it and run the steps above. And still... no result. But the led in flash drive is blinking for a few seconds... I don't know what that means for sure, I assume that flash drive was correct.

Please somebody help me.

Hi,

Need help to recover my laptop DELL Inspiron 3555 (P47F or P47F005) I tried to download the newest BIOS on DELL , but after trying to run BIOS it stocked on a long waiting to finish screen, I waited around 30 minutes and Laptop did not restart, Tried to do many other things, but just mouse pad worked.

Tried to download the BIOS file and extract as found on many sites: (using another computer)
Inspiron_3555_1.0.9.exe /writeromfile
Inspiron_3555_1.0.9.exe /writehdrfile

...But when It extract the file It names the files as Inspiron_3555_1.0.9.HDR and Inspiron_3555_1.0.9.ROM.

1- Found on DELL that I need to press CTRL+ESC to allow to have access to BIOS recovery, prepair a USB stick with 8GB and formated as FAT32, Not able to access recovery mode. (It seems that this laptop does not have that feature according to DELL website compat list)
2- Tried to name file as BIOS_IMG.rcv and pressed CTRL+ESC, insert USB. Not working.
3- Tried to extract ROM file using 7zip and I had a file called CEF5B9A3, tried to name the rom and HDR as CEF5B9A3.rom and CEF5B9A3.hdr, this time what I did was to unplug the AC, then press END and plug AC back, but not success.
4- Tried to open EXE file and ROM with phoenixtools273 and phoenixtools253 and I was not able to see the ROM file into the phoenixtools, I was able to see that it is a EFI/Insyde Bios.
5- Tried to use UEFITool_NE_A40 and search for file *.hdr or *.rom without success.

One thing to note is that the first time I removed the CMOS bat, the laptop batt and unplug the AC adapter...then pressed the END key, the Laptop Batt LED turned on and after 10s the USB seems lighting....But It just happened one time.

I tried to do many ways, I opened Laptop and removed CMOS battery and tried same steps without success.

After many searches on GLG I found this forum and seems promising....I think that one of the issue comes with file name, I do not know if ROM and HRD should be called CEF5B9A3 or just place file on USB called BIOS_IMG.rcv, another issue is the way to access the recovery mode.

Can any body help?. Thanks in advanced.
