Acer Aspire M5100 R01-A3
#1
Hoping this is the right place to post this. Ive been trying to find a solution to my problem from all over the internet, but havent been able to solve it yet. Maybe you guys could help me out with my problem. Getting exhausted now after about 12 hours of trying to sort this out, so i decided to ask around for help. I am no expert on this stuff.

Whole story goes like this:

Ive got an Acer M5100 desktop with Vista 32. Did a clean install of Windows 7 64bit (my system should be ok for a 64bit)

System wouldnt startup. Got stuck on "verifying DMI pool data...".

Fixed it by googling for a few hours and using the Windows 7 install DVD repair function > command prompt > BOOTREC.EXE /FIXBOOT trick. Seems that this needs to be done always with this Acer model when making a clean Win 7 install.

Now the system starts up ok, but ethernet adapter, display card and sound is not working. Other devices seem to be working ok. I have installed correct drivers.

However, if i reset the BIOS to the default settings from the BIOS setup, everything works fine. Problem is, i need to do the BIOS reset EVERY time i restart the system.

My BIOS is the R01-A1 version iirc.

For example:

1. I start up system normally from power off or Windows restart > devices dont work
2. I start up system with a BIOS default reset > save&exit > everything works fine
3. I start up system with a BIOS default reset > save&exit > go straight back to BIOS settings but dont change anything > devices dont work

So i was wondering if you guys might have an idea on how to solve this ? It sure sounds to me like a problem related to the BIOS. Ive not changed any hardware and havent opened the actual computer case so i doubt its been damaged in any way.

Hello,
I have the same machine and am experiencing the EXACT same problems as this person. I had installed Win7 Ultimate x32 and this was working fine. However I have 4gb of memory installed and wanted to take advantage of the additonal RAM and to utilize the AMD 64bit processor, so I installed Win7 Pro 64bit.

Now I have the same problems with the ethernet adapter, display card and sound.
I don't mind not having ethernet (since I am using wireless with no problems), but the display adapter and sound issues are furstraiting.

Can anyone recommend a BIOS or driver solution for this problem?
