Shuttle SX48P2 E - request for intel option rom mod
#1
Rainbow
Hi togehter,

I am looking for a problem solving cause I actually having troubles with my Shuttle for 4 months now, starting when I bought two Samsung 470 SSDs 64GB for use in Raid 0 with my Shuttle XPC. Cool

Now my problem, SSDs and Raid0 are not recognized all the time - or even the second Raid 1 with two WD Green 2TB is going to be not recognized if an error with the SSDs occurs. Dodgy So i also tried a version from the net (ocztechnoloy forum) with an individually upgraded intel option rom from 7.6 to 8.5 - working somehow better - but not really best!?

SO, is there anyone who can help ?!? Confused

I actually have BIOS version SX48SE06 installed - even with an modded intel option rom v8.5 - is there a possiblity to bring an option rom version v9 or even v10 to work properly with that rom? And is there a possilbility to add the option rom also to the former BIOS version SX48SE05 as I think this verison is working better with my CPU and Graphics... a Q8400 & a Sapphire 5770HD.

Is there also a possibility to mod my graphic cards bios - it makes some problems with s3 resume or even wont show anything every 10th system boot although OS is loaded and I hear windows welcome sound..

Thanks in advance for your help! Rolleyes

Really? No one who can help with this issues?!

Then otherwise, can someone provide advanced information to do it - so I would need ressources to option roms and help about which tools are suitable for modding - i suppose a hex editor will not be sufficient Wink

so there are follwing tools:

modbin - various versions - depending on OS and BIOS to be edited - I tried 2.4.3 - but I was not able to get the saved BIN file working...
cbrom - to validate the included option roms - couldnt get it to work on my W7x64...

thanks for any help and assistance in advance!!!

It seems you are VERY Impatient.
Your second post Complaining about a lack of help was made less than 2 hours after your original request for help.

You need to use CBRom to update the Intel RAID Option ROM.
There are plenty of guides online showing the necessary commands for CBRom32 v1.98 (which definitely works on Win 7 x64) , Google them.
Ultimately the ONLY way to know if they will work on your PC is to add one of those Newer Intel RAID Option ROMS to your BIOS and update to the related Driver Version and TEST it.

You can test these three Versions of that BIOS I updated with Intel Raid Option ROM 10.5.0.916, 10.6.0.1091 and 10.8.0.1303.
Flash From DOS with teh Included AwardFlash and Install the Proper Version 10 IRST Drivers.
Drivers Version 10.8.0.1003 should work with those Option ROMS:

Thanks DMAN999!

Please understand my inpatiency... I am struggling around with this problem now for months, and therefore want to solve this - please understand, I will train not to flood the forum - thats a very good point you adressed!

Blush

I already checked some information, and I already downloaded CBROM, but may be a to old version or a not working one - so I downloaded the version from the forum - quelle surprise, it works perfectly Wink

so I am going to try some bios hacks - hoping you can help with some advice.

Is there any further possiblity to check the BIOS before flashing (one thing I ve read ist to load it in modbin6 - if it gets loaded it works. Is it also possible to check it with bits14 or is this tool too old?

Many thanks!

You can certainly open them in ModBin to make sure thay are NOT corrupt.
Just be sure you do it from Real DOS Not a DOS Box in Windows.

I already have installed the 10.8.0.1003 drivers and they are working.

BUT maybe interesting to you and others!

Many Many Many thanks DMAN999 for your work and will to help - I will try them tomorrow!

I also tried the SX48UE05 version which I hardly downloaded from an Shuttle FTP server (Not Linked in the Website - it must be a special version not available in the web) because the official version is SX48SExx and not SX48UExx - maybe you know more?! S = Standard and U = Ultra or better S = Standard and U = USA...
anyway - but if you know I would feel better - why Wink ? I tried the UE BIOS version and afterwards it was very hard to switch back because original SX48SE04, 05 and the 06 BIOS version were determined as not compatible to the board - so I manually overide the BIOS check in AWDFLASH.... it worked out but I was afraid to be fixed to that BIOS version for ever at first.

So I also talked with a very skilled modder Fernando - he also helped very immediate today me an my buddy (also owns a SX48) and also tried the mod and told me not to use an intel orom higher than 10.1. because of some compatibility reasons... I cant determine if there is really higher risk of not working - I am trying, but really hoping not to destroy the boards bios anyway.

Here for other interested the SX48SE06 bios file from fernando with orom 10.1.0.1008: http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/attachment.php?aid=3323

Hopefully one of those mods will work for you.
If not you can post back and request an exact version be added to that BIOS.
