N43SM BIOS Unlock

Ok, you will first have to flash this bios (attached to this post).

It is the older version, which I've modded a little to trick winflash to think it's ok to flash it.

Then after that flash the bios that I first posted (my modded one).

That should work, it's strange but that is how I do it with my notebook.

I've flashed the system, rebooted, and hit F2 during startup.

I go to the cpu settings and found out that the + key (add value) didn't work, then I exit without saving changes. Then I booted to windows and shut down the system

I then went to the BIOS again and go to thermal, I set the CPU to throttle at 103 and shut down at 113. And I decreased the fan trip point 0 and 1 one thermal point down.

Now the laptop cannot boot, when I turn it on. The laptop just sit there with indicator lights on for a few seconds. I then downloaded an original BIOS from asus, extracted it and made two copies. I renamed the 1st one AMIBOOT.ROM and the second just change the .209 to .BIN.

I powered it on and held CTRL+WINKEY (home) to insert the CD, then shut the laptop down. I booted again to force flash the CD BIOS to the EEPROM, but it didn't work and still blankscreen until I released the key and let the laptop autoshutdown

I dunno if the BIOS is corrupt (but how did it boot when I exit without saving?) or the intel chipset doesn't like the thermal config I altered.

HELP

BTW I have yet to use a FAT-32 formatted USB drive, there's 4 USB ports, 2 left and 2 right (1 is usb 3).

I also left the laptop without the battery or power adapter attached, hoping to reset the BIOS.

I don't know if this laptop has a BIOS battery ot a CMOS jumper. I never disassembled it.

Sad

Sorry to hear the bad news.

Just a question, did the bios actually unlock anything for you?

Try taking out the cmos battery, that may reset the bios settings.

EDIT: Didn't read the part about not knowing where the CMOS jumper is, I guess the first thing you should do is either find the jumper or the battery,

It did unlock intel clock settings (although I didn't know how to oc trough this)
And it unlocked CPU power settings, power saving, PCI and Thermal

How to find the BIOS battery or jumper for this laptop?

I don't exactly remember what settings were unlocked, if I DO get the laptop running again, I will post some pics.

Any reccomendations besides resetting the CMOS jumper/take BIOS battery out?

EDIT: I've read somewhere that you can short the EEPROM pins and get your "default" BIOS back. Not sure how to on this laptop though

You can try taking out the battery and disconnect the AC adapter, then hold the power button for 30 secs.

Any luck finding your CMOS battery?

I sent the notebook to be repaired. I will tell whoever tries to repair that to remove the battery + bios battery and power drain the notebook.

BIOS jumper? I didn't know that BIOS jumpers existed on laptops...

I really hope future laptops have Dual-BIOS like their desktop counterpart tho Sad
