Asus Rampage III Extreme ZioMod Bios (Latest: 1601_S17)
(10-17-2013, 09:53 AM)sinders Wrote: Well SkOrPn send me the modded OROM and I have just modded the Asus Rampage
III Extreme 1601 BIOS with the OROM and flashed my board with it.
I have two Crucial RealSSD C300 drives in RAID0 and I am using the 11.2.0.1006 RST drivers and I have done a quick test with the TrimCheck Tool 0.5 and according to this tool, TRIM has now passed, it appears to be working.
This is very good news for users with an Intel ICH10R RAID0 system.
Since the TrimCheck Tool is not able to detect very low TRIM activity and AFAIK hasn't yet given false positive results, you can be sure, that the TRIM commands passed through your Intel SATA RAID Controller into the RAID0 array, when you get the message "TRIM appears to be working".
By the way: When Dufus/CPL0 made his tests in 2012, he used a TRIM detection tool, which had been developed by himself. At that time he didn't want to publish it, because he meant, that it has not yet been perfect enough. So I doubt, that he will give you detailed informations regarding the tool he had used.

Thanks Fernando for assuring me that when I get TRIM
appears to be working message from the TrimCheck
Tool, there is no doubt, TRIM is definitely working.

Are you now going to mod other OROMs the same way as
Dufus/CPL0 did and put them on your site for people still
using a board with a ICH10R Intel SATA RAID Controller?

It would be great if you could mod the likes of the Intel
RST RAID ROM 11.2.0.1527 OROM the same way as
well as the newer OROMs.

Not sure why but I can't access Win-Raid website at this time.

@sinders, well I flashed that bios and it must be corrupt I think. After it shows me the initial screen, I have to hit "DEL" key in order to enter BIOS setup, and well nothing happens. It just sits at a blinking cursor forever. I thought I would ask you what to do next before I jump over to the other bios. My secondary bios is an unmodified Asus 1502 or 1601, not sure which.

What do you want me to do at this time? Its just sitting at a blinking cursor, even after clearing cmos several times. Help! lol

EDIT: FALSE ALARM! I do not know why but after a third attempt at clearing cmos, this time holding down the button for 30 seconds it let me back into the setup screen. I quickly made all my normal changes and it booted to windows just fine. Hmmm, weird.... I will commence to testing TRIM now.

I have updated my thread with my Rampage III Extreme 1601 BIOS mod which includes
the special modded Intel RSTe RAID ROM v11.6.0.1702 thanks to CPL0 aka Dufus from
the AnandTech Forums to enable support for TRIM when in RAID0 on this board.

Please check the thread here.

Your best using the Marvell SATA 6G Controller for your
Samsung 840 Pro SSD if only using it as a single drive.

With my modded BIOS with the special modded Intel RSTe
RAID ROM, you won't be able to use the Intel SATA 2
Controller in RAID mode when using Marvell Controller.

If you want to use both the Intel SATA 2 Controller in
RAID mode for other drives and also use your SSD on the
Marvell Controller then your best using the latest
modded BIOS by ZioGTS

Any chance we can get a BIOS version with OROM 13.1 please? I'm curious as usual to test the latest OROM's.

Here's a beta version with latest Intel OROM v13.1.0.2030.

I didn't test it yet, so I didn't update the first post and the thread title. The only driver available is beta too, and from user comments it looks like v13 series is not optimized to work on our old x58 chipsets... Let me have your feedback!

ZioGTS
Asus Maximus VI Formula Z87 - Intel Core i7 4770K - G.Skill TridentX F3-2400-C10 16Gb
Asus GTX780-DC2OC-3GD5 - Cooler Master HAF932 - Antec TruePower Quattro 1000W

I do not believe any versions from v12 and newer are optimized for the x58 chipsets. Only v11 and older seem to be regarded as proper for x58. However, with that said I can not get any version before 12.6 to be absolutely stable. In fact 12.7 is currently super rock stable on my machine. If I flash anything what so ever before that I start to notice minor stability issues, especially when I venture into the lower 11's and into the 10's. Unless its just my perception, the newer is better kinda mentality, I have no clue why it feels this way to me so all I can say is the newer ones seem better for me. My thinking is they must be built for todays modern SSD's, which would explain why they run so good since I am using modern SSD's. Same goes for the drivers and the Windows app.

Thanks ZioGTS. I will let you know how it goes.

I couldn't resist and flashed it... Smile
I tested it running a full set of benchmarks, both with 12.9.0.1001 drivers and with the new beta 13.0.0.1072.
Results were not encouraging with the 12.9 driver, but... WOW! With 13.0 driver I got one of my best result in all benchmarks! This combo is second only to ZioMod_S04 (the best in my system, v11.5.0.1582 OROM coupled with v11.5.0.1207 drivers). I also abandoned v11.5 performance combo because of instability issues, something was wrong there. If stability of this v13 series is comparable to the previous v12 series, we have a winner!
