ASUS P5LD2 Deluxe & Conroe CPU

I have this exact same board and I can't even get a Core 2 Duo E6x00 CPU or even Pentium E2160 initialized. It appears it only supports Pentium 4 CPUs but others have managed to get Core 2 working on this very chipset and it appears this board uses an older VRM specification. So I'm not sure if its doable but if a pinmod is possible, and if we can even get 45nm core 2's working, I'd be very grateful. I want to use this board in one of my legacy systems but I'd hate to put up with the NetBurst microarchitecture.
