ASUS P6X58 E WS Xeon X5680 Support
#1
Hello!

Trying to update my trusty test lab motherboard from i7 920 to X5680 failed because I didn't check CPU compatibility before ordering, getting a black screen.

Motherboard is ASUS P6X58 E WS and I have the latest BIOS flashed 301.
Through Google and asking around in other forums, closer I got is read the cpu microcodes from the BIOS and indeed it reports 3 platforms for 206C2 which is according to ASUS Website: X5650, X5675 and x5690.

It is an AMI BIOS but I can't figure out how to add the latest 206C2 microcodes and UEFI Tool reports "parse: not a single Volume Top File is found, the image may be corrupted" when loading the BIOS even though I can see the structure in the UEFI Image.

Tried on my own but I just know I'll do something wrong, so can anyone add support for X5680?

BIOS is here Asus P6X58-E WS BIOS V.301 and I'm attaching it as well.

I'm also attaching the extracted microcodes from MC Extract (7kb) and the latest 206C2 microcodes from github (11KB) if it helps.

Thanks!

I'm running Manjaro on this PC so CPU-Z is not available. Here's a screen from CPU-X though.

I'm also attaching the mainboard part of the report from dmidecode.

Oh! That's odd, there are only 3 206C2 platforms reported with MC Extract which match the 3 ones that the m/b officially supports (5660, 5675 and 5690) according to ASUS.

Maybe that user was using a modded BIOS as well? Anyway, thanks for the help! Guess I should just grab an X5675.

Cheers!

All Xeon 5600 series use the same microcode.
