ASUSPRO B43S does not update using easy flash
#1

I hope i am using the right section for this. If not Please forgive as I am new to this. Thanks for your patience. Now onto my problem.

>Bought 2nd hand ASUSPRO B43S in a bargain bin.
>It takes allot time to boot into windows
>It also shows a message " ME is in Recovery State..." on startup.
>I check for Bios Update and find version 212
>I put it on flash drive with fat 32 system and load easy flash from bios menu.
>Easy flash does not show the file in the drive or in any other place (Yes I did switch to USB in EZ Drive UI Sorry for the confusion in the attachment).
>The version installed on system shows up as version 211t05.
>Interestingly this version of bios is available nowhere on the official website.
>As of now I am unable to update from easy flash as it just does not show the update file in the drive.

Now my question is should i take the risk and install 212 using one of the methods listed in this website. I am worried that may be the previous owner made some changes to the system such that official firmwares are no longer compatible??

Please Help out here and a tutorial on how to update will be greatly appreciated....

Did you unzip the file before putting on USB? Did you try all other USB Ports? Have you tested other FAT32 USB Sticks, sometimes certain ones will not work properly, smaller the better.

The first image you are showing only shows EZ Flash looking on your C drive, you need to "Tab" or arrow on the left side to FS1, FS0 is your main hard drive

ME Recovery is an issue, we can fix but lets see if we can get you updated to latest 212 BIOS first, if not we'll fix ME then try BIOS update again. Try again on the USB EZ Flash BIOS update, moving to FS1 and see if unzipped BIOS is there now and lets you update. ME is not included in Asus BIOS, even though that last BIOS says it does, so we'll likely need to fix manually.

If you do get updated and ME still same download this Intel System Tools package for ME7 systems
https://mega.nz/#!rQ9WXQYL!LfEvstS2CLK05...fFe7vqs60U

Run the following commands from command prompt (select windows folder, hold shift and right click, then choose open command window here).

First run this from the Flash Programming Tool folder, at windows folder, system will reboot
fptw.exe -greset

Then if still ME recovery after reboot, run both of the following commands one at a time from the MEInfo and MEManuf folder, then to Windows folder inside, and show full image or text (Select all, copy) of each output showing command ran above and full result below.
MEInfowin -verbose
MEManufwin -verbose

If you cannot get to windows, apply all of the above to DOS versions instead and run it from USB with DOS setup on it (images will need to be taken of MEinfo output

Thanks for your reply and attention. Yes I did switch to USB in the EZ drive UI sory for the confusion the attached shot might have caused. Tried multiple 2 usb ports (Third one isnt working) Did unzip the file before copying to USB. The USB is a 4gb flash. Dont have anything less.

Onto the ME stuff. Looks like i have to get to work. Will update after going through the instructions. Once again Thanks.

You're welcome, and thank you too! Ists' good to know the image was just wrong one and you did all as mentioned. Try to see if you can find other USB Stick, small is best, like 1-2GB or less. Sometimes even then compatibility problem, I have a few that don't work no matter what, best ones I have are 512MB-1GB, but some 2-4GB OK and some are not. You can also create a small FAT32 partition on the end of the hard drive too, if you know how to safely use partition tools, that will be visible to the BIOS as well, maybe best way if you can't find other USB to use.

In case that BIOS is just being funky, since as you mentioned it's not on the website. Make a copy of the BIOS file on USB too and change it's extension from .212 to .rom
Also, be sure BIOS files are in root of the USB not in any folders. And it may help to re-format again to FAT32 just in case, use windows simple right click format options.
