Acer Aspire 4752g sandy bridge & ivy bridge cpu upgrade
#1
Hi all,

I have Acer Aspire 4752G come with i5 2450m and i'm planning to upgrade the CPU to 2nd-gen i7 2820qm or 3rd gen i7 quad core (whichever supported on my mobo). My question is will my motherboard support these cpu? do I need to add microcode to the bios for cpu support?

i've attach the screenshot of cpu-z below and the photo of my mobo code

Your laptop is based on HM65 without support for Ivy Bridge core.
Quad cores CPU with Sandy Bridge core aren't recommended for this laptop too because of overheating.

hey, thanks so much!

Looks like the only option I have is to upgrade to i7 2640m 2 cores/4 threads which have slightly higher speed clock (2.8-3.5 ghz) with low TDP (35W) then.

Hey, I’ve found a solution for my notebook heat issues by replacing the thermal paste and it goes down to 48 degree celcius idle to 78 degree celcius max load. And third party cooling pad/cooler will bring it down a bit. Just wanna ensure before buying the quad cores i7 2860qm.. my question is will it work?

Thanks in advance

OK, replace thermal paste and install third party cooler.
Then stress current CPU and GPU simultaneously: run Furmark & LinX (with idle process priority).
Make screenshot of HWMonitor when GPU & CPU temperatures will stop rising.
Only after this test I can make the decision about i7-2860QM.

Okay, I’ll get back to you tomorrow. I didn’t bring my notebook with me as I left it in my office.

Is the GPU mean internal GPU (intel HD 3000) or dGPU (geforce 610M)? I didn’t use the dGPU anymore and I have it disabled in bios.

GPU is the one that you are going to use with i7-2860QM in the future.

Even if I’m running eGPU?

It's for test only, but you can make second test with eGPU.
