Acer Aspire M3641
#1
Good day,
first of all I apologize in advance if I explain myself badly, I don't speak much English and I translated some parts with google translate

I'm new on this site, and searching online I didn't find the solution to my problem, so I thought I'd write here, maybe someone can help me

A month ago I bought an Acer Aspire m3641 PC with the following features:

- Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 processor

- 4 Gb RAM

- 320 Gb hard disk

- integrated video card, audio and lan

my idea was to make it a retrogaming pc by installing windows xp and I thought about buying a dedicated video card.

Unfortunately after several attempts I realized that none of the video cards in my possession worked, because the pc showed me nothing but a black screen and no input signal when starting up, despite this the pc started up, then you could hear the initial beep, then the boot and if I reconnected the integrated video card there is signal.

I also tried replacing the power supply (mine is 450W but I did a test anyway), but nothing.

I tried to reset the bios several times and also tried to change the video input priority on the pci-express instead of leaving it in auto, but nothing.

The only video card recognized is a Geforce 7300 GT (not that great) and I don't understand why, the only hypothesis I made is that it uses the pci-express x16 1.0 standard, but I'm not sure about it.

Searching on various sites (including this forum) I discovered that the version of the bios that I have in my PC is the AMI BIOS P01-A1, I don't know it it's weird since the same pc model found online usually mounts the R01-B4 bios. Unfortunately on the Acer site there is nothing left that can help me, and I don't even know if my bios version P01-A1 can be updated and which version is the most updated bios.

My theory (but it's just a theory) is that the Acer bios is locked (badly) and therefore I can't install dedicated video cards (at least not the ones I want), so I thought about replacing the existing bios (P01-A1) with another (I think R01-B4), I know it's a risk but I haven't found any alternatives.

My problem is that I can't install the new bios because during the update I get the following errors:

- ROM file id incorrect

- ROM file size incorrect

Maybe I wrote too much but it was to make you understand my problem, and if you can kindly give me an opinion on it (and hopefully also a solution).

I hope I haven't bored you,

Thank you and have a nice day
