Alienware m5550 AHCI unlock Bios request
#1
Hi all,

I would like get my bios to show the SATA AHCI option for my Alienware m5550. It is in IDE mode now and there is no way to change it.

This is the official bios available is this link and down:
http://www14.zippyshare.com/v/78797971/file.html

If I need to use the bios backup tool to get the bios please let me know.

Thank you very much

Hello Harris,

It appears that your BIOS does not support AHCI.

In case you are interested, I added 5 settings to your 'Info' Menu. One of these settings is 'VT Feature'. This setting controls virtualization.

Now for the usual warnings/disclaimers:
Quote:Warnings/Disclaimers:

Please remember to take proper precautions when flashing your BIOS. Even if the image is safe, the flashing process can still fail. Make sure that (if applicable) your notebook is fully charged (100%), the power plug is properly connected, and that the chance of the power going out is as minimal as possible. Do not interrupt the flashing process. If possible, it is a good idea to have a working CRISIS recovery disk when messing with your BIOS. Use the flashing instructions for your particular computer brand. DO NOT DO ANYTHING UNNECESSARY!!!

I take absolutely NO responsibility for ANY damages that may occur to you, your computer, your personal belongings, your neighbor's cat, or any other personnel or equipment as a direct or indirect result/consequence of your, or any one else's, use or misuse of any of the files that are in this archive at the present or at any time in the past or the future. You assume full responsibility for any damages or inconveniences that may occur by choosing to flash, or otherwise use or misuse, this image or any of the other files within this archive.

Have fun! Big Grin

~Steven

Thank you Steven for your answer

My notebook has chip Intel 82801GBM ICH7-M and in accordance with the specification supports SATA AHCI. Link:
http://www.intel.eu/content/www/eu/en/io...sheet.html

I don't know why the manufacturer didn't give SATA AHCI option in this BIOS?

I have a different version BIOS for my Alienware notebook. Could you check Steven if this version BIOS maybe can activate SATA AHCI option or only SATA option without AHCI??? Link to this BIOS file and down:
http://www11.zippyshare.com/v/62713730/file.html

Thank you Steven for help

Hello Harris,

This BIOS does not support AHCI either. The BIOS should support SATA though without the user having to configure any settings. You can confirm this by installing a SATA drive.

Hi Sml6397,
I am sorry for my poor english.
I have the same trouble with this computer.  But I found a bios support AHCI,
The BIOS is "Fujitsu-Siemens_Amilo_Pi_1556",the same can use in Alienware m5550, but Limit 2.5GB memory.(More than 2.5GB,The computer will not be boot.)
Alienware m5550's bios(2.07w) support 4GB, but not support AHCI.
So, Is there any way  to fix 4GB and AHCI ?
Best wish
