Two years ago, a friend of mine moved to the US and left me his old, unused( Asus F80Q) laptop. It was in pretty bad condition: missing keys, dead battery, and a generic charger with a bad capacitor.

Since then, I’ve fixed it up: I bought a new battery, replaced the capacitors, installed a new keyboard, and upgraded it with an Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 and 2x2GB RAM. It's now running smoothly on my Manjaro Awesome respin.

However, I'm wondering if it’s possible to reprogram the BIOS to adjust the fan curve. It would be great to make this old puppy a bit more silent. It stays quiet when idle, but as soon as the screen locks (the blur effect uses a tiny bit of CPU), the fans ramp up immediately.

Is it possible to learn how to modify the BIOS on this machine? Or if someone here already has the knowledge and tools, could you please help me out?

I would appreciate any advice!
