Asus K73SV Unlock BIOS and Update CPU Microcode
#1
Hello!

I have a laptop Asus K73SV. (Specification)
I updated the Intel B950 processor to i7-2630QM.(CPUID 206A7 (SR02Y))
Before that, I flashed the latest BIOS from the official site.
https://www.asus.com/Laptops/K73SV/HelpDesk_BIOS/

With the new processor does not start. The power button is on, but nothing else happens.

Microcodes in BIOS are present, but they are quite old.
Is it possible that the manufacturer blocked the BIOS and does not allow to modify the processor?

I ask for help in unlocking the BIOS and updating the microcode of the CPU.
New microcodes in the attached file.

Post screenshots of first (CPU) & third (Mainboard) tabs of CPU-Z with supported CPU.
Did you checked your i7-2630QM on other motherboard?
Make a photo of motherboard's elements near a socket.

CPU fine.

On the other device works.

Current BIOS has suitable microcode for i7-2630QM.
Look at this - http://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/11659694
Try this algorithm:
1) remove AC jack, Main Battery, and CMOS Battery
2) remove HDD and all DIMMs
3) install new CPU
4) wait 10 mins
5) press and hold power button for 30 sec.
6) install CMOS Battery and one DIMM only, inject AC jack (without Main Battery!)
7) try to boot your laptop.

Thank you so much!!!
Everything worked out. Not without dancing with a tambourine and luck.
Not the first time, of course, but having moved the memory to another Slot, the laptop started up.

One question left.
Is it possible to update the microcodes in the existing BIOS?

Thank you so much!!!

Windows can update it.
Make a screenshot of regedit with expanded key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DESCRIPTION\System\CentralProcessor\0 with new CPU.
