Asus M3A78-EM flashing and Slic question
#1
Okay I have read the threads and have a couple of questions.

I have downloaded the program to check the slic table. It appears that I have an incomplete slic 2.1 just with the common Asus non modded bios.

Its present in the basic tab, Advanced tab but in the SLP 1.0 tab no SLP OEM string.

So I gave the program to a friend who has A dell and under SLP tab he has a valid SLP OEM String but an invalid offset.

So anyway back to my question. I have tried all the frimwares that where posted here. When I try to flash them using the built in bios flash they all come back as invalid boot block. Why is the boot block invalid? Is this som sort of asus protection against modding?

I can only flash them in dos mode from a usb stick. When I do flash them the SLP 1.0 window still shows no SLP OEM string.

Should there not be something there?

Oh and the program that I am using is Slic Toolkit v3.2 in windows 7 ultimate running as admininstrator. Any suggestions? I am trying to get a 64 bit OEM dell windows 7 dvd to work with my asus since my dell is no longer amongst the living. And shelling out another $200 is simply out of the question. Bunch of con artists at Microsloth. Sorry just had to add that.

Can you please give us a few screenshots from SLIC dump. As far as i know Asus dont use DMI tools because they sell retail motherboards ie. no special things to hide the SLIC unless your system was shipped with Windows XXXXXXX"

We can always do a SLIC 2.1 and SLP combined mod for you Smile - Just say the word

Sure I can reflash to the stock. And I purchased this MB via a local retailer who ordered the MB so it was not a system with windows. Also I updated the bios myself from the Asus site. That's why I had the question about the slic presence. Well half of it anyway's. I will post some pics and get right back to you after I put back the old bios. Thank you for your quick reply.

Heres the latest v2501 stock bios with Asus 2.1 SLIC and SLP 1.0 for windows xp. To use SLP 1.0 copy the 4 files from the OEMBIOS folder in the download to the system32 direcotry in Windows XP and activate using a OEM SLP product key. For 2.1 SLIC follow the below instructions

Here you go , i used Asus 2.1 SLIC + Certificate Included:-

1. Copy and paste ******.XRM-MS certificate file into C-Drive.

2. After pasting this file into C-Drive, go to START - ALL PROGRAMS - ACCESSORIES - COMMAND PROMPT. Right click on Command Prompt and RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR.

3. When Command Prompt opens, type at the prompt: slmgr.vbs -ilc c:\********.xrm-ms and hit the Enter Button. Wait for the Script Host to answer you with a message that the license was installed successfully....this could take a few minutes and so be patient.

4. After receiving the message that the license was installed successfully, type at the command prompt:

slmgr.vbs -ipk *****-*****-*****-*****-***** (Replace with any OEM SLP Product Key for your installed version of Windows 7 , they are not hard to find).Be Patient and wait for the message to say that the Product Key was successfully installed. After it says successfully installed, reboot the computer.

5. When you are back at your desktop, go to START - COMPUTER - right click on Computer and choose PROPERTIES and see if it is activated with an OEM product ID.

Ya read that thank you. Just flashed to the latest 2501 and there is nothing in there. I kept a backup of the Bios when I upgraded to 2003 or something like that so I will reflash that one first and then see if I can get a read. And I am not trying to activate XP. I have an OEM copy of xp pro that activates fine. Its windows 7 64 bit Ultimate. But one thing at a time here. Let me reflash with my old backup and reset the cmos and then see where we go.

Oh ya. The one question is still pending why the built in flash utility claims that all the biose's I get from here have an invalid boot block?

Side note here I did flash the Asus 2.1SLIC 26 SLP By1234s282.zip and the slp table was empty. Anyway let me reflash to my old backup.

Nuts. I can't go back. I tried using the DOS method and get an error saying that the flash is to old and it was the 2003 version.
I just re-flashed the version you gave me in this thread. Now what I meant was.

When you run SLIC Toolkit v3.2 and go for the SLP 1.0 tab
You get two windows. A top and bottom. Now with the bios file you provided the Top window states in red

"No OEM SLP String found !

But the bottom window states that there is an SLP OEm string.

With my friends pc the top window stated. the following

Valid SLP OEM String Offsets :4

Offset Valid Address Range SLP OEM String
000FAB07 000F0000 - 000FFFF BIOSLOCKFUNCTION ELITEGROUP
000F02D6 000F0000 - 000FFFF Hewlett
000FE0D3 000F0000 - 000FFFF Hewlett
000FC4F9 000F0000 - 000FFFF HP Pavilion

That's the stuff I was talking about. Anyway. I installed your bios and will attempt the instructions with an OEM version of 7 64 bit. Now as for the key. You specified that it should be an OEM key. Okay what make of OEM key? Acer, Asus, HP etc? I was under the impression that it had to match the brand of the certificate that I would be used via the slmgr.vbs -ilc c:\********.xrm-ms.

Hmm I think I understand what you meant. Sorry I think I just answered my own question as to the key. Lol. Its the key that belongs to the oem version of windows that I am installing. Doh. Forgive me. But I am still curious as to the slp 1.0 window. And if you know any method I can try to force flash a lower version back on my board. Because I kept a backup of 2003 that did have SLP strings in the second window.

Sorry about the rant.

Actually , it doesnt matter what key you install - the certificate you install MUST match the SLIC but any Windows 7 OEM:SLP key (GoogleTongue) can be used as long as it matches the edition of windows you want to install ie. Any brand Ultimate key will work for an Ultimate install , any brand Home Premium key for a Home Premium install and so on.
