Asus U24E AMI UEFI/BIOS unlock & mod
#1
Hello, I am new here and would like to learn how to unlock and modify my Asus U24E-XH71's UEFI/BIOS. It is an AMI Aptio UEFI.

Currently, this laptop does not support SATAIII storage devices (SSD & HDD), only SATAII devices. The Cougar Point Mobile IntelĀ® HM65 Express Chipset (IntelĀ® BD82HM65 PCH) does support SATAIII storage devices.

I am using a SATAII Samsung 470 Series SSD (128GB) and would like to be able to use a SATAIII SSD in the near future. Many other fellow Asus U24E users would like this feature to become available as many have reported back with SATAIII SSD detection issues. Asus is "reportedly" working on a fix for this with the release of an updated UEFI/BIOS, but... I would still like to learn as much as possible about this issue and how to correct it.

I already downloaded the latest UEFI/BIOS, and some AMI Aptio tools found here at bios-mods. I researched and read as much as I could prior to joining this forum but now would like additional help in this matter. I am a passionate computer enthusiast and committed to learning.

Any help in this matter is greatly appreciated!

-David

I am using AMIBCP v4.53 and went to the 'BIOS Strings' tab. Under the 'Find String' I typed sata and came up with the following results.

Token | String

0x0063 | SATA %d
0x017C | Enable or Disable SATA Port
0x017D | SATA Configuration
0x017E | SATA Device Options Settings
0x017F | SATA Mode Selection
0x0180 | Determines how SATA controller(s) operate.
0x041F | SATA Controller(s)
0x0420 | Enable/Disable SATA Device.
0x0421 | SATA Test Mode
0x0439 | IRRT Only on eSATA
0x043A | If enabled, then only IRRT volumes can span internal and eSATA drives. If disabled, then any RAID volume can span inter...
0x0459 | Configured as eSATA
0x0692 | eSATA port Interface
0x0693 | If Locked, eSATA port will be disabled
0x0694 | SATA ODD Interface
0x0695 | If Locked, SATA ODD will be disabled

Is there anything else you need or would like me to do, let me know.

An updated BIOS was released from Asus for the U24E. New BIOS 205 can be found here :

http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/U24E/U24E205.zip

The new BIOS did not fix the SATAIII issue. We are still unable to use SATAIII 6gbps SSDs or HDDs. I am still trying to figure out how to get this problem resolved.

Any help in this matter is greatly appreciated guys!
