#1
was wondering if there is an alternative bios i can use for my computer being that the current one is not compatible with Windows 7, according to ACER, or if it can be unlocked, unfortunately i have searched high and low and found nowhere to download the bios file, is there a way i can copy it from my computer? any help or advice, other then purchase a new mobo would be greatly appreciated. I bought this computer in march 2008 i cannot believe i cannot put windows 7 on here.
Thankyou in advance. email dm2017@shaw.ca dm2017@gmail.com

just because a bios is not compatible with windows 7 doesnt mean you cant flash it. All it means it that the flashing software may not be supported in windows 7. You will still be able to flash it and use 7 witohut any problems , it will just have to be done from DOS.

your bios doesnt determine what OS you can run!

I appreciate the feedback and if it is not the bios then i do not know what it is. win7 Install works just fine and then on initial startup it hangs at verifying dmi pool data, I have removed additional hardware reset CMOS cannot get windows 7 to work. acers website says my computer isn't compatible with window 7 so I wonder how this can be if it's not the bios. specs: quad core phenom 9500 2.2ghz, 4gb ram, 500gb HD, 512 mb geforce 8800gt gpu. again does anybody know If there is an alternative bios I can flash my system with as acer refuses to help me with this.

Really strange , like I said , the bios shouldnt effect the OS.

Have you tried removing the CMOS battery on the motherboard for 10 minutes (And yes , its important that you do leave it a whole 10 minutes!) then replacing it , loading up the bios and choosing "Load Setup Defaults" , saving changes then rebooting

Let us know how you get along with that

Have same weird problem here, but i got Windows 7 working and then all of a sudden after an update from Microsoft it stopped working, just hangs at the start "where the flag comes together"...

Anyone knows where i to can get hold of a new bios?

Ken

Boot offf the Windows 7 DVD , select "Repair My Computer" and run startup repair wizard

Also , can you boot to safe mode?

ok removed the battery for 10 minutes and tried again. only difference this time is now it says verifying dmi pool data...update success. then sits there I left it there for 2 hours and nothing changed.

I will try this when I get home. I remember trying something with the win7 disc about repair and got some weird error. but I'll try this after work.

woooo got windows 7 running now as u said it wasn't my bios, apparently my MBR needed to be repaired and after installing win7 32 bit it worked ok so I downloaded the 64 bit win7 recovery cd and was able to then repair the 64 bit mbr after installation. this webpage is where I found my fix I suggest all who are having this issue to go here such an easy fix if I may post a link :

My researches for your board made me first think, it is a ECS, but in deed it is quite more similar to a foxconn A690GM2MA but i can't verify the version... maybe you can verify the specs and someone can build an alternative BIOS! Wink
Check this:

BTW.: there is also an AMD690G-Board with the same layout but slightly different spec's i think...
