Can't figure out how to flash BIOS
#1
I have an Acer V5-573P which has experienced the black screen of death (the computer doesn't post, turns on but only black screen)

After a lot of googling I'm pretty sure that this is a bios problem and the fix is a simple bios flash but I cant seem to be able to flash any bios on my laptop (removing CMOS to reset bios didn't work either)

Here's what I've done

1. Using Rufus created a bootable FAT32 FreeDos Usb Stick.
2. Downloaded my bios.
2. Extracted the rar to get to the exe.
3. Extracted the exe file.

This is the site from which I downloaded the BIOS (Bios)
The problem is after extracting the exe there is no BIOS files (like .FD or .ROM)
These are the only files I get (Imgur Link)
Irregardless I put these files onto the root of my USB and put it into the computer. Then I hold power,fn, and esc
The blue power indicator starts flashing so I'm pretty sure that it means it is atleast able to enter BIOS recovery mode or whatever but nothing ever happens and it just keeps flashing.

Any help would be great. Thanks

I had similar issues with a Dell bios. The fd file must be unpacked by the executable. Launch the exe on a different pc, if it gives you a warning ignore it but DO NOT close the Insydeflash window, browse to that users appdata\local\temp folder. Sort by date and at the top of the list you will find the folder with the extracted fd file in it.

Ok mate,
Bios Version 2.30 . . .
EFI / Insyde BIOS
Recovery filenames are:

ZRQ.fd

SLIC header found in 7E374E25-8E01-4FEE-87F2-390C23C606CD_1347.ROM at 0
Pubkey found in 4CAC73B1-7C53-4DC1-B6FA-42A15260409A_2085.ROM at 0
Marker found in F306F460-2DC9-4B5D-9410-83585F1ADD80_2091.ROM at 0
'SLIC' string found in AFC04099-0D39-405D-BE46-846F08C51A31_1362.ROM at 653
'SLIC' string found in AFC04099-0D39-405D-BE46-846F08C51A31_1362.ROM at 129C
OEM/Table IDs identified are:
1. INSYDEH2O BIOS
2. ACRSYSACRPRDCT
Header (INSYDEH2O BIOS ACPI) (x1)
Pubkey (x1)
Marker (2.1) (ACRSYSACRPRDCT) (x1)

So Recovery name is ZRQ.fd

Here You go :

http://rghost.net/7CzcFYLg4

There are two files as actually We cannot know if Bios Recovery need Capsulated or Decapsulated one !

ZRQ.fd Capsulated
ZRQ.rom Decapsulated

So try ZRQ.rom 1st, copy It into an USB FAT32 Formatted (no needs Bootable so no RUFUS)
then rename It as ZRQ.fd and follow this Guide to Flash the Recovery as Recovery Procedure :

Performing the emergency flash:

- Shutdown the netbook (notebook)
- Remove all peripheral devices
- Remove battery, Remove AC power cord
- Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds (battery and AC power still out), then release
- Put the USB Memory Stick in the USB port
- Hold "Fn" + "Esc" and plug the AC power cord in
- Now press the power button (whilst still holding Fn + Esc).
Wait until the fan will run, then release "Fn" + "Esc" keys
- The fan will run for about 2-10 minutes and the USB drive activity LED will blink
- I think the netbook rebooted automatically. If it doesn't, unplug the AC power cord once the fan has turned off

The bios should be updated with the modified BIOS, and boot as per normal.

If 1st doesn't produce the Recovery then try the Original (2nd one) ZRQ.fd making the same !
Let me know
