Changing BIOS-Chip
#1
I'm curious about a question:
Is it possible to put an other BIOS-Chip on a board than it is built for?
I specially think 'bout these tiny DUAL-BIOSes from GIGAVBYTE or just bigger ones to put a few more things on it...
I found this one:
http://www.ioss.com.tw/web/English/RD1BIOSSavior.html
Are there other possibilities? What do you think?

Well you can always hotflash a PLCC 32bit chip, given it has the same starting serial number and is the same or larger in size.

Is it possibly to load some basic OS like coreboot nearby or within a normal BIOS? I wanna giv'it a try if i get all the sources and modules for my board. It sounds so wonderful to boot the machine completely up in less than 5 seconds!
Or maybe we can take an doublesize chip and load the double of modules to test them all by one... Big Grin
I Think this could be such a fun...

There used to be a program called biosview.exe that would "run" the bios in a dosmode and let you test out a few things. I cant find a link to it anymore thou. You dont happen to have a copy?

Nick

wich version do you have?
I have the BNOBTC own version 2.1.0.0. but I've read 'bout a version 2.4.5.0. of 2008 but I can't find it...
Is it maybe possible to share the BIOS-tool-collection anywhere and keep it fresh again??

I have the same version you do. I have attempted to grab a newer version and it has always been corrupted. Might be fake.
