DELL XPS 9530 BIOS/HPA/SMBIOS Question
#1
Hi there,

I'll start off by apologizing for most likely asking this wrong and or using incorrect terminology, I will try to be as effective as possible!

My laptop was acquired through my company program and is now 100% mine and I was wondering if there is any way to remove any corporate settings that may still be lingering within the BIOS/OPROM/HPA.

I recently applied the A09 BIOS unlock ROM that was graciously made by one of the members on this forum. I am unsure how to tell if my device is still some how managed through some means of the BIOS by my employer. I suspect it is the case (most likely just an oversight) but there are many odd things I experience on this laptop that I do not experience on any of my other devices. The other thing I suspect is that I have a HPA still on my disk as it is 1TB in size but only has about 920GB available when installing windows.

I have attached what I could gather from RW everything (CPU Mtrr, PCI dump, ACPI tables and SMBIOS information).

If anyone would be able to help me identify where I should be looking (as I wouldnt be surprised if this was entirely the wrong places) that would be fantastic!

Thanks so much and I am open to any suggestions! Heart

Hello newgonhowzter,

I would recommend two things:

First, reset the BIOS settings to default by removing the CMOS battery, notebook battery, and power cord from the laptop for at least 10 minutes. At the end of that time period, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to dissipate any remaining power. Now plug/put everything back in.

Second, flash a clean BIOS version provided by the manufacturer of the laptop. If the BIOS mod came from a clean BIOS image from the manufacturer of the laptop, you need not take this step.

!!!!!PLEASE READ!!!!!! Our Ukrainian friends are undergoing atrocities right now and need support. There are two things you can do for starters:

1.) Donate to one of various organizations offering medical, military, and psychological support to those impacted: Support Organizations

2.) Combat misinformation on social media.

Also, please feel free to PM me if I have not replied again about your BIOS mod request after 5 days.
