Find old BIOS or mod the BIOS? AMD Laptop MSI Alpha
#1
Hello everyone,

I own the MSI Alpha 15 (B5EEK-077) with the Ryzen 5 5600h and the RX 6600M. I am generally very happy with the notebook. Thanks to some settings, I am very happy with the performance in games (undervolting and overclocking the GPU).

I happened to notice that I am using an outdated BIOS. I updated it yesterday. Unfortunately, I discovered that almost everything is now blocked in the new BIOS. No undervolting, no overclocking, etc. The performance has been very limited since then. Unfortunately, I cannot find an older BIOS version. The version I am currently using is E158LAMS.10F. Since I cannot find an old BIOS version, I am actually considering whether the laptop's BIOS can be adjusted... unfortunately, I am a complete newbie. Can you possibly help me?

Kind regards Smile

The MSI Alpha 158L aka b5ee or b5eek has the bios support page here:
https://www.msi.com/Laptop/Alpha-15-B5EX...B5EEK#bios

To download an old bios change the url for the link with the old file name.

For example download the current and extract it. Open the release file named something like E158LAMS_1xx.txt and find the name of the version you would like. Eg
Code:
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
;;                                                                          ;;
;;            MSI BIOS Release Notes                                                 ;;
;;                                                                                    ;;
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

Model    : MS-158L
MKT Name : Alpha 15 B5EEK/ Alpha 15 B5EE

Release Date : 2021.8.16

;--------------------------- Description ------------------------------------;

First Release.
E158LAMS.105 is the first release that supports my wifi 6e card. I could pop that name into the url so I have:
https://download.msi.com/bos_exe/nb/E158LAMS.105.zip

You can then download that version you want.
Here is another example url:
https://download.msi.com/bos_exe/nb/E158LAMS.108.zip

There now you are downloading the file from the original source. The release notes can be followed or a bios flasher could be used with the rom.
