Hello guy`s

So , i have an HP HDX 16 Laptop , and my question is if i can upgrade the my old BIOS with a new version.

Here is a litle info about my machine:

Processor : Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU P7350 @ 2.00GHz 2.00GHz
Instaled memory (RAM) : 4,00 GB
System type : 64-bit OS
Display adapters : NVIDIA GeForce GT 130M
Network adapters : Intel® WiFi Link 5100 AGN
Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.20)


Here is the actual version 2009-11-20 , Version:F.32 A, 2.05M ,wich i found on HP Software & Driver Downloads

I´m not so advanced in BIOS stuff but any help apreciate.

I ask this because my Windows Experience Index is only 4,6 , maybe noob question.

3 Things:-

1. This probably isnt solvable through a bios mod - biosmods do not affect yourt windows experience index score

2. you have a decent system , is it worth the risk of flashing a modded bios?

3. The bios you linked to is the latest available

4, What section of the experienceindex gives you 4.6? - thats the component that needs upgrading. Post a screenshot and we can help you find an upgrade!

This is not bios related but il still help you

As your score is selected from the lowest score in the subcategories (CPU in this case) , to improve the score you will have to upgrade your CPU. I found this while searching online for you:-

Upgrading:
Upgrading is possible through HP’s site. There are five Intel Core Duo processor options, beginning with our model (2.0 GHz P7350) and going all the way up to pretty top of the line stuff like the 2.66GHz P9600. RAM can be had in 2GB, 3GB or 4GB options (remember to get a 64bit version of Vista if you want to use more than 3GB RAM), and the HDD can be upgraded from 250GB to 320GB.

So it looks as though you have the bottom level processor but can upgrade to a 2.66ghz P9600 without any issues. However , CPU upgrades on laptops generally requier completel disassembly of the laptop so only do this if you know what your doing!

Cheapest P9600 i could find is this one although im not sure on whether its the correct socket etc. http://cgi.ebay.com/Intel-Core-2-Duo-Mob...4cef9790a8 for $255.

Memory:

Your system can actually take 2 X 4gb DDR2 PC6400 RAM (8gb total). However , the only way you could effectively use all 8gb if you did upgrade would be to reinstall Windows 7 but in 64bit not 32bit.

Graphics:

Very risky business upgrading a laptop video card. Best bet would be to ensure you have the latest drivers installed to give the best possible scores. Also try overclocking it (Carefully!) to see if that helps.

The main thing though is upgrading the CPU. As a general guideline i found another site where their WEI score for CPU (Using a non overclocked P9500under Windows 7 32bit) was 6.2 , so you can expect at least that for the P9600.

Assuming you get a 6.2 for CPU , you overall score would go from 4.6 to 5.3 (Because hard disk and graphics are then the lowest scores)

The only way to improve hard drive speed would be to switch either to a higher rpm drive or preferably a solid state disk but these are still quite expensive!

Personal opinion is that if your CPU and Hard drive are ver 5 , windows 7 should run fine without issues. My opwn system gives me a 5.1 (thanks to a rubbish video card) but CPU is 7.1 and Hard drive is 5.8 and performance is fantastic!
